I have been working with a pathologist for almost two years now, as well as in his research lab. I don't technically interact with living patients, but I do handle patient samples on a daily basis, and see autopsies. Does this count as clinical experience?

No. But time observing the pathologist at work would count as shadowing. Hopefully, you also plan some observation of physician-patient interactions where the subject of attention can respond.

I would not put that stipulation on clinical experience. Clinical experience in NICU or hospice can be valuable, even if the patients are non-communicative. Ditto for procedure based medical care where patients are sedated.

OP: Pathologists are physicians and they do practice medicine. They are clinicians. However, it is best to have a variety of exposures to clinical care including primary care.

Thanks for the advice!

Nope. Live patients >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dead patients
