Hey y'all,

I've done a research program at a children's hospital for two summers now. As part of the program, I attended daily lectures given by physicians from the hospital, had the opportunity to observe surgery, and was a member of a research lab.

I'm wondering if there is it's possible to count the program as clinical experience? I worked in a lab in a building joined to the main hospital, but I would regularly have to walk through/around the hospital and would thus see both patients and doctors.

You shadowed the surgeons, so yes, that would count as a clinical experience. I would list this separately though as shadowing since the summer program was primarily research oriented. Hopefully you also saw the doctor-patient relationship in an office setting (i.e. when the patient was not under anesthesia). This should not be your only clinical experience though, and it's important to also have some clinical volunteering under your belt.

This is all shadowing. Look for activities where you do something for patients.
