All I did was review patient charts for certain trends, looked at cost, length of stay, complications, stuff like that.

Is this significant clinical research? I had two projects which will eventually be published if that means anything. But when people say the top schools need a lot of research.. i only did one summer and one semester of lab research.
 
How engaged were you in the work? Did you contribute to the study design? Did you come up with a hypothesis? Did you do the paperwork necessary to get the IRB (ethics committee) approval to do the study? Did you have human subjects research ethics and/or HIPAA training in preparation for doing the study? Did you do any of the database management, and/or analysis? Did you learn any reseach skills?

Schools want to know what you've learned, and if you've learned to think like an investigator (scientist).
