Okay so where do I begin searching for clinical shadowing? I don't know who to ask and where to look for...
I am currently in Houston, TX. If anyone could help me with that? Please 🙁

Have you developed any relations with physicians while volunteering at the hospital?

Do you have any family friends that you could ask?

If not, it's time to break out the phone book and prepare to call a lot of people...

What I found that was helpful was to look for doctors who are alums of my undergrad. They're a bit more receptive to students. You can try Google, or go to a professor and ask for some names. Also maybe try your school's career services office if you have one.

Do you know of any doctors personally (your PCP, family friends etc. etc.)? Are there any teaching hospitals near you?

If the answer to either of the above questions is yes then contact doctors from the above two options (cold calling etc.) and try and shadow them that way.

If the answer to the above questions is no, it becomes a little bit more complicated as you would still have to cold call but non-teaching hospitals/private clinics are less receptive to taking students to shadow doctors due to liability issues (or so I've heard).

Start with volunteering at a hospital. Make relationships... and there's your shadowing.

Teaching hospitals are sometimes worse, residents are way to busy to even talk to someone other than a patient or faculty.

There's a really big medical center with a lot of teaching physicians in it in Houston.. could contact some of them and see if they'll let you shadow.

What? Residents LOVE to tell you (or at least me) about their experiences, and it's absolutely hilarious, I gained so much insight at a teaching hospital.

Although, in this situation I knew people through research in ugrad, so the stars have to be aligned correctly if you're seeking to shadow in a teaching hospital.
