It seems like BU gives students clinical training earlier in the education whereas at Tufts, you get into the real stuff in the third year. Is clinical training really important for you to be a successful dentist in the future?

the earlier the better...but it always depends on the person itself....if you suck, then you should start super early...but with my hands...it was almost immaculate

This is one of the most ridiculous questions I've ever read. No, you actually don't need clinical training at all. You're better off just looking at pictures of how things are done than actually learning how to do them with your hands.

At UNC, we start operative dentistry during the second semester and seeing our first patients during the first summer. The more experience you have in the clinic, the better prepared you will be when you are out in the real world on your own.

2 semesters more or less of patient care will not make a difference in the 'future'. Regardless of how much you see or don't see in dental school, once out in private practice things even out over time. Granted some people might be a little bit more experienced fresh out of the gate, but with time it's not a big deal IMO.
