Social Services- The person in this position talks with patients about any social needs (non-medical) that he or she may have. The person also uses a Social Service resource manual to find agencies in the patient’s community that may help meet his or her needs. This person also needs to be emotionally mature as some of the needs of patients are monumental. Training or experience in Social Work or the social service sector is required. Hours Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30-9:30pm. Wednesday 9:00am – 1:00pm.

Does that description fit clinical experience since it's patient interaction? I wasn't sure if it is since I'm just talking...not administering anything.

Yes, esp. if you're doing psychosocial assessments and such for the nursing staff as well. Positions like this, though, often require a bachelor's or an MSW. The job description implies to me they want a BSW (MSW preferred) or a BA/BS in Psychology or a related field w/ experience.

So I even have to compete just to get a volunteering job.....?

People with official credentials are less likely to volunteer for such a position, when they can do the same thing for a salary, so it won't hurt to try for it. If you have any familiarity with local social service agencies, or willingness to learn, they might take you on. I think it would be a great clinical experience if you could get it.

If this is just a volunteer position, you probably won't need the credentials. The job description you gave sounds like an actual medical social worker/case worker type of position.
