Pharmacy school seems really diverse but do people hang out in cliques? Vietnamese, indian, etc?

If there are other health professions at the school, do the the pharmacy students respect them?

I remember an episode of Scrubs when Carla Espinosa, the nurse, got mad at JD, the doctor because she thought he considered himself better than her.....

heh.

I plan on making fun of the DO students because they're not MD's.

yes we have cliques at our school. if you walk in the student lounge to eat lunch, a certain ethnicity all sits together in one giant mass of 20+ students.

I wonder what ethnicity that might be.

There's one guy that's 1/4 Asian at my school. He's in one group. Then the 83 white students form the other group.

The groups at WVU more divided into degree-of-slacking stratta. I'm not kidding about the race thing at WVU though. There really is only one pseudominority in my entire class. It's really boring. And they all like Dave Mathews. God I hate Dave Mathews. ( I think we've been over this before...)

haha, my school isn't like that at all....... I have sat through presentations by students where I had no idea what drug people were talking about due to language barriers. "dry mouse and fatty-goo are side effects" (dry mouth and fatigue) maybe they were all out eating, drinking, and being merry the night before their presentations.

Every person on earth will associate themselves with people who share similar ideals, beliefs and opinions. The answer is a resounding yes, any group of 100 strangers will sort themselves out into 'cliques'.

Honestly, about the other professions that's a bit touchy. I think when you're knee deep in the semester and work load piled high when you hear of a nurse who is doing 4 courses and is in class like 2 hours a day, while you're doing 7 courses and 9-5 everyday you develop a bit of contempt. Again, human nature. However I find these feelings subside, there's no actual hostility between professions. I acknowledge they have a different skill-set than myself, and that's it. It's a completely different profession, there's no real point comparing the two or feeling above/below them either. Same goes for the physicians. When you kind of segregate groups, each group prides themselves on who they are, their uniqueness. That may lead to a bit of minor conflict, but in the end on the professional level there is certainly no contempt, this is from our side anyway.

well next year i'm planning to start a clique with all the cool kids (ie. the people who like Dave Matthews). whenever we see a nerd in the cafeteria, we're gonna tip his tray up so all his food spills on his dorky shirt and then stand around and laugh. it's gonna be sweeeet! DMB RULEZ!

Make sure that your collar is popped and your hair is spiked while you're at it.

Ooooo that is the seksay.

Seriously, though, I think that cliques really are a part of life. We tend to associate ourselves with others that share common interests/goals/backgrounds, whatever. I would hope, however, that by the time people get into a professional school that they've grown up a bit so that they aren't as exclusionary as I remember it being in high school. I'll have to see how things work out next year. I'm kind of a dork, so I often don't even notice if others are trying to snub me. I usually find my group of science nerds and we do OK together.

Unfortunately, I think that my experience at ISU is going to be similar to what WVUpharm gets - except replace a lot of those DMB-lovers with Mormons. (Idaho is already painfully homogenous as it is, and Pocatello is one of the worst cases. It's going to be a bit of a shock living somewhere with such minimal diversity).

Most professional schools are very cliquish. Everyone takes the same classes at the same time and most students compete with each other. Not to mention that there are usually professional specific frats and sororities supporting the specific profession and the expending role of the specific profession. Each professional school seems to think they are better than other professional programs. And most professional programs gear their student professionals into the local professional associations and talk about moving their profession ahead with more added responsibility and expended job roles in the future. Many students seem to eat this stuff up and get all googly about it. All very cliquish.

Does WVU seriosly not have any non-whites, i mean i know WV is not very diverse, but even little old concord has a lot of other ethnicities.
