Hi All,

For those of you that have interviews with a closed file, did you find that there was any significant difference in the interview in comparison to those interviews were your file was open? Of course they are not going to be able to start a question will.." i see you have done XYZ..." but aside from things like that was there anything that stuck out as a difference either positive or negative. I would imagine that you find yourself talking a lot more because they know very little about you in terms of your motivation or EC. Any thoughts?

I've had one open and one semi-closed interview (they just read my ps). The open one lead to a few more comments regarding course work, scores etc. The semi-closed one definitely focused more on my personal statement and intangibles like why I wanted to be a doctor, greatest strength etc...

If you are well-balanced it really shouldn't matter what type of interview you have.

i've had both types. if you aren't a good conversationalist then i can see how the closed file might be more dificult. the open file kind of provides an outline for the interviewer, and the closed leaves the questions more open ended. i felt like the closed file actually gave me more of an opportunity to engage in conversation with the interviewer. in the end they really weren't too different.
