From what I understand, a closed file interview is one in which your grades are not discussed. So when schools interview using this method, does this mean your stats are good enough to go to that school and now they just want to make your personality a determining factor in the decision to accept you? If not, what is the purpose behind a closed file interview?

Closed file just means the interviewer doesn't have any information about you. Not your grades, your personal statement, experience, etc. I think it's supposed to let them get to know you without any preconceived notions. I personally prefer this method, as it lets me guide the interview where I want it to go, as the questions tend to be a lot more general.

Thanks! My interview at UIWSO was closed-file as well, but the interviewer did announce to me that she had my personal statement in front of her.

Actually, I've been told closed interview is everything EXCEPT GPA and OAT.

all your essays, letters, resume, and shadowing are at their disposal.

and yes, it operates on the assumption that you now have the brains, but questions your professionalism, knowledge, and communication skills.

That's what I was thinking. In the invitation I received from UIWSO, it stated that I was not to worry, I had been chosen based on my academics and to be myself and basically not to worry about grades. They were just trying to say not to stress out and to be myself. I wasn't sure if every closed-file interview was like this. Thanks Kiwi5frog!

I guess it must depend on the school. At SCO they didn't have any info about me, and I'm pretty sure at UHCO they didn't either.

I agree with your second statement.
