Closed file MMI

That is school specific.

In general, though, at schools where the "multiple mini interview" is the only interview, your interview score will only be based on the rubric of the MMI stations. I would think for MMIs, all the observers/interviewers will not review all applicants' files. That would both bottleneck the process, and negate one of the points of the standardized MMI - avoiding biases.

Later, this standardized interview score is combined with the rest of your application in a "holistic review" by the admissions committee at large. Usually, this involves an initial review by 1-3 individuals who would only bring up your file at admissions committee meetings if there is disagreement or an "on the edge" case to be resolved.

Thanks for the reply. I guess this may also be school specific, but are the interviewers also the ones doing the holistic review or is it a completely separate group of people?

MMIs are a huge group effort and pull interviewers from all kinds of places, e.g. med school faculty, medical students, undergrad faculty (if associated with the medical school), alumni, associated physicians, etc. Many have no input into the admissions review process outside of their individual interview station. The review is completed by members of the admissions committee.

A school's interviewer pool can be quite large (sometimes dozens of individuals). With an MMI format, doubly so - because you require somewhere around 7 to 9 or more interviewers per interview session to run the concurrently tested stations.

So, you may find that one of your observers or interviewers for the MMI is a student or community member who has no role to play other than their rating of your performance at their station. It's also possible if not likely that the admissions committee members themselves would participate in some MMI sessions.
