disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a severe clinical disease that results in the coagulation of the blood throughout the whole body; however, this action depletes the body of its platelets and coagulation factors so the net result in an increased risk of hemorrhage. when DIC is suspected, what would the clinicians expect to see in the lab test?

a. decrease fibrin levels
b. increase platelet count
c. decrease fibrinogen levels
d. increase prothrombin levels

the way kaplan explained this answer was confusing...they said "c" was correct, but how? any help is appreciated.

my guess is because all of the fibrinogen has been turned into fibrin giving you high levels of fibrin from all the clotting going on and low levels of fibrinogen
