So I was trying to do alittle research on this and thought Id ask the question here. At least in AZ for our state medical license renewal, we need some cme credits. The renewal process is every 2 years. I was able to renew this year (first year out) because of the credits from being a resident. I will have to renew in 2 years however. I know that if you pass the aba board certification process you get enough credits to satisfy the requirement. However, what if you fail the oral boards? Will you have to do other activities to satisfy the requirement and at the same time continue to study for a retake on the board exam? To my knowledge, board prep courses don't award credits or do they?

Some board prep courses do award CME- it depends on the course(I think inperson and video courses usually give CME, question banks tend not to) and for some you have to pay additional for the CME credits (more aimed to people recerting). For example for my pain board prep course they awarded 45 hours of CME which is way more than you can apply in a year.

For MOCA 2.0 you can get a max of 60 CME/year right?

so you get cme credits for passing the oral boards? are these category 1? how many credits do you get and how does one get credited for this. when i check in my portal there is nothing automatically applied. thanks

No credit for passing the boards. You get credit for taking some CME-eligible courses in preparation for the boards.
