I just got a letter in the mail informing me of which "doctor" I will be seeing at my first appt.

They have me with a CNM. How qualified are they? What about their extent of knowledge and ability to asses problems/diagnose/prescribe meds? (I'm in Florida if that matters)

This place has 8 MD's and then 4 people who are nurses of sort.

How will my care be any different by seeing a CNM? Should I have it changed to one of the MD's?

I'm not pregnant, I'm going because I get really ill when it comes to that time of the month.

Thank you for any help/insight.

Certified nurse-midwives provide primary care to women, including prenatal, labor and delivery, postnatal and gynecological care with an emphasis on health maintenance and prevention. Though nurse-midwives generally focus on natural childbirth, they may prescribe drugs and use technology when needed. The CNM that I have worked with are wonderful, they provide great care. They are not just nurses, they have had years of experience, they have a BS and MS. So I would encourage you to have a positive outlook. 🙂
