How is everyone doing with their ERAS? Did anyone submit theirs already? How many pages is your ERAS application when view in PDF format? I keep thinking I am missing something and am nervous to submit.

Same question- Mine, with the CV view, is 9 pages (ERAS view is 18).

Sorry everyone, one last time: do we need to list “reason for leaving” for ANYTHING in the experience section? I worked as a medical scribe and peer tutor full-time for a year before med school started. Should I just write”started medical school” or leave it blank?

I didnt fill out anything that wasnt mandatory lol
 
Haha I guess I was just trying to just get an answer regarding how kosher it is to just leave the "reason for leaving" section blank for all experiences or if this will look lazy on the applicant's end. Just seems done to write 'started medical school'. 'project completed' or whatever over and over again for each experience

My entire app in preview mode is 10 pages... don’t know if this is too long or short compared to other people

WHen programs say they require 3 LORs, does that mean you shouldn't assign four? I have four letters uploaded in total, but ones from an off service doc (psych) while I'm applying IM. The third letter is from the "dept chair" but at my DO school it's my clinical dean for the third and fourth year. She used a sloe-style template to create a dept chair letter for IM programs. I'm torn if I should assign that letter to each program and skip out on the psych one, or just send each program four.
 
7 days from app submission. Applying IM and starting to realize there is way too many programs haha.

Personally my biggest problem is my fit for a program I know nothing about. They don't do open houses, social media and the website is outdated past 5 years.

It really feels like some of these programs really don't care if people apply there at all.

Well, both are PDFs, but they have different styles. The only other psych application I've seen is from a classmate a year above me and it was significanlty longer than mine. However, they also had Ph.D so my scale might be a bit skewed.
 
Anybody doing anything for their background for virtual interviews? My plan was to just have a neutral wall or something.. nothing over the top... But I recently spoke with someone who is going all out and placing things on the walls for different reasons and stuff.

I spoke with one resident about this who said their program wouldn't care and might even kind of make fun of people who were all "extra" about it but.... that is n of 1.

I'll be out of town for rotations in Nov/Dec too so I'm not even sure what my interview environment is going to be yet.

We are talking about the ERAS application, not the CV one. Yours is like 18 pages long. The folks who responded show 8, 9, or 10 pages so far. Looking at last year’s thread (just read it), looks like several responded that theirs were at 5 pages, a couple at 12 and 15 pages. I definitely don’t think you’re is too short. Did you include everything you did in pre-med and high school?

haha I feel this so hard. Most of their websites are useless and/or difficult to navigate.

I feel like it could be distracting. The point of the video interview should be you not the room haha.

I'm going to be away from home for December to January so most of my video interviews will be at a hospital basement, library or Panera bread.

Oh okay, that is helpful. LOL, I put some 8th grade promotion awards that I thought were medically relevant...JK.

I had a bunch of research from undergrad and graduate school (x2 M.Sci.) which took up a lot of space for citations. These research experiences were described in the experience section which took up some space.
 
For research experiences, when listing the Supervisor - did y'all put Dr. XXXXXXl, title after like XXXXXXX, MD, PhD, or omit title entirely?

I’m gunna peep my instrument in the back just in the corner in view enough as a talking point potentially but not a distraction. Applying EM tho where hobbies and personality tends to be all of the interview (so I’m told). Head lots of EM PDs suggest doing something similar. Anything to get to know you better since nothing is in person this year.

I have everything done I just keep adding and dropping programs to apply to. I think I’ll end up submitting sometime this week maybe Wednesday or Thursday if I get home from my rotation early and can read through everything one more time.

Just praying to get let out early one of these days so i can give my app one last look over and decide on a final list of programs/crank out any “secondary” type essays/forms that may be required. Hoping to submit by friday, but worst case scenario I have this weekend off between rotations

Not yet, I am still debating whether I should include stuff that I did in college or whether ERAS should only include from grad and med school forward. Thoughts?

I included a full-time job as a medical scribe and a big volunteer activity that I was involved with during my gap year just to fill that bridge between undergrad and starting medical school.

I did jobs in college that were more blue collar and manual labor because I use that to paint a certain picture. If you feel that an experience is worth mentioning then do it. Just don’t name off every honor society you’ve been in since high school and BS summer jobs

It's awesome seeing some of the members on here that I have seen posting since pre-med days and now we're applying to residency. I'm glad we've all been on this crazy ride together for years. Even though I don't really know any of you personally, I feel like I do in a way. Good luck to all of you this cycle!

Holy crap I thought you guys were saying your CVs were 8-10 pages, I had a quick panic attack. So ready for all this to be submitted.

Totally agree. I added a job in high school because it flows with my PS and story. Seems dumb to leave it out for no reason. I feel like if it paints who you are, add it.

Thoughts on when to send emails of interest to PDs? I got the advice that I should send them before apps are submitted so as to not get lost in the crowd. Also, thoughts on personalizing your PS for top programs by adding one or two lines at the end specific to that program?

There are definitely a ton of programs. In the past, you would determine fit during the interviews and pre-interview dinners. Unfortunately you guys don't have that option this year, which really sucks. If programs don't offer open houses, which it's hard to say how useful those are, you could try emailing the coordinator to see if they could provide you the contact info of residents to talk with.
 
woah wait a second. I am finishing up my ERAS stuff and I stumble onto this thread of wisdom. regarding USMLE and COMLEX scores, all we need to click is 'authorize' correct?

or does USMLE need to officially send scores over to ERAS some other way. I am not sure about this.

once you apply, your scores will get uploaded. you're good now with having them authorized. nothing left to do but apply!

Well, one of the posters above (@InterventionalSpacePsych) did say his/her CV view is indeed 9 pages (his/her ERAS app view is 18 pages)... not sure if it is the norm or outliers. Would definitely like to hear more inputs from others. I am definitely panicking because mine is not remotely close to that many pages

Yes, you still need to assign them to each program. Using the drop down in the right column next to both USMLE and COMLEX.

My total ERAS is 10 pages
 
for those of us applying to both prelim/TY and advanced programs -> we pay/submit ERAS once with all of these programs included -> then later on will we submit 2 rank lists (1 for prelim/TY and 1 for advanced)? Just want to make sure I understand this and I'm not missing anything we have to do special with ERAS other than submitting once altogether?

If the program doesn’t want a chairs letter, save it and use the other one. I wouldnt assign more than they ask you too unless there’s unprecedented circumstances like you are applying fir a specific track or something.

Yeah. Don’t do it. Your email is clogging up the programs inbox and more than likely the PD isnt seeing and the PC is moving it to a “save for later” bin. You aren’t the only one sending an email letter of interest in hope that the PD will read it and all of a sudden pull you from the pile. Everyone, especially this year, is going to go through the same standardized screening process and will be chosen accordingly throughout their admissions committee.

You can definitely personalize your PS for the programs you are really looking at. Just make sure your changed PS is directed to the correct program.
