MD & DO co'21 Residency Panic thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I emailed ERAS technical support about this and they confirmed that the preview before you submit is on our end only. Programs only see the view/print ERAS and view/print CV views.

Haha wow wasn't expecting that. Thanks for contacting ERAS. So I guess line breaks/bullet points are ok? I still wonder whether the PD's can sort the experiences in some excel like a spreadsheet where this would be a headache. I was starting to use ALL CAPS for titles of different programs to differentiate research study titles in the event everything is squished into 1 paragraph. Does @NotAProgDirector have any insight?

For programs that specifically ask for "CV" on their applicant info page on their website, how exactly do we upload our CV to ERAS? How do they get our actual personal CV other than the "CV" they get from the common ERAS app?

EDIT: nvm I think that's just a redundant thing on the programs part... Upload CV in ERAS? Looks like programs ask for that but it's really just your common standard ERAS app.

Unless someone can shed more light on this?

I essentially pan honored my rotations , so i just went back and asked people i worked with for letters and they were happy to write them. I have two sets of letters as i was pondering dual applying.
You go, glen coco

So I sent a manuscript to my mentor to review.. I saw him the other day and he said he read it over the weekend and it "was very well written, let's submit to journal x". He hasn't sent it back to me yet, although he told me he already reviewed it. I am submitting my ERAS this weekend. If he doesn't send it to me this weekend (I know he is very busy as he does collegiate sports coverage), do you think it would dishonest to put on ERAS the article and submitted to X journal in October 2020, given the fact it will be submitted any day (probably early next week if he doesnt send to me this weekend)?

Is ur mentor not telling you to submit it to the journal? Are you waiting on his edits? I think it’s fine to say you submitted it on your eras so as long as you actually do so.

Probably has already been asked, but if I will be getting a last second letter I can submit my app now, and then just assign that letter on like Tuesday when it comes in right? Would I have to resubmit? Or does it just automatically get submitted with the rest of my app after it’s assigned?

In the same line of thinking, I have a COVID related project that’s never been seen before but we’re still working through edits. I’m gonna obviously send it in to the big boys and it’ll get published due to the nature of it but how would I go about saying this?
I mentioned it vaguely in my personal statement but this should lead to at minimum a national conference presentation and a pub so it’s kinda large, it’s just the timeline of it all won’t be set in stone by the time ERAS gets sent.

I have my accepted stuff in ERAS no problem it’s just hard to enter the non accepted right I guess

I know this has been asked in years past but I'm still really struggling with what to do with what schools to include my in Education section.

I am a non-trad who transferred during undergrad. I'm definitely including my first undergrad school (was there for 2 years) and the school l graduated from.

Then, I took two classes at a local CC before starting my Post-Bacc. They were just refresher science/math courses, which don't seem important to include, but the CC is in the city of my top choice program where I lived prior to my post bacc. Should I include the CC?

I also took two of my post-bacc courses at a university other than my main university (I did a DIY postbacc and this other school offered the courses in the summer, where as my main program did not). Should I include that school as well as the main post-bacc university?

I do not think i included my CC credits last year. It is largely irrelevant.

Anybody know if your credit card/check card gets charged the moment you submit/certify or is it on Oct 21st when programs can view it?

I saw him in person yesterday and he said edited it, looks great, and lets go ahead and submit to X journal, but forgot to send the edits back to me. I followed up with an email reminding him to send me the edits but he hasnt responded yet. It's about to be the weekend and I know he is very busy with sports coverage so there may be a possibility he may not send to me and I am submitting ERAS this weekend. I don't feel like it's untruthful to put that we submitted this manuscript to X journal in October 2020 on ERAS given that it will be any day and manuscript is complete

You’re good just say it’s submitted

On today's episode of overthinking ERAS therefore never getting it done.... I'm applying IM, with goal of primary care. I listed AAFP among others under professional society memberships. I joined due to the primary care aspect. Should I remove it? Does it look like I'm wavering in my IM commitment?

that is a reasonable concern.

How about removing AAFP from your membership list but mentioning it in your personal statement for IM programs that have emphasis on primary care?

For IM programs that are your typical academic/fellowship oriented, you can have a separate PS which doesnt have the emphasis on primary care.

That way you are judged by both camps in a manner to your benefit

Has anyone submitted their app already and subsequently assigned a letter to a program they already applied to? Trying to make sure I can certify tonight but still assign my research mentor's letter when it is ready on Monday.

Are we supposed to submit scores through nbme somehow?

What would be a reason for not releasing your birth date on the application? Do people actually not release it?

submitted, sent, and paid. It's official.

still confused on the programs that require "CV" on top of "common ERAS application". Am I supposed to send it to them directly? I don't understand that.

If your professional society memberships are a good variety, don't sweat it. If your entire application screams FM but you're going for IM, you may want to remove it.

So when I look at the view/print CV screen, all the stuff in it is out of order (not ordered by date). It looks fine on the View/print application page. Is that okay? If not, how do I fix it?

Edit: Also, for publications, can I distinguish my name in the authors in any way? On my actual CV I have my name bolded, but I can't do that on ERAS.

Sorry if this has been asked.. when I click the View/print MyERAS application, everything looks good with the correct spacing and bullet points.

When I go to the certify/submit, it looks like crap - none of the spacing is correct.

Which one do program directors get and how do I correct it if it is the certify/submit draft?

This caused me to go through all my programs to look for this crap and it was literally the only one that put that requirement on ERAS.
Yep same here. Wasted a good 2 hours going through all of them

Wow this is really bringing out the neuroticism in me - also just realized my BLS certification has expired. Fine to leave that blank?

Same here - looks like it deleted all my line breaks. When I try to go back in an manually add, it still leaves them messed up

Someone mentioned earlier that they called an ERAS rep and they said that programs see the “View/Print CV” format with the line breaks, etc.
