I don't really think any group of people are cold or stoic (English, Germans, Scandinavians, Finns, suffer from this stereotype). Some just happen to be more reserved initially. From my experience in New England, the people were a lot more reserved initially, but once you really got to know them, in about 3-6 months, they got very intimate and warm.

I have to laugh at this topic. What does "coastal folks" mean anyway since the west and east coast are far more different from each OTHER than either one is from the midwest. Not only that but, let me guess, you met maybe a few people on the interview trail and then were able to piece together what over half of the country is like? LOL.

I have lived all over, and the most cold, stoic people are definetly in New England. The most fun loving, free willing, "let's get drunk and have a blast" types have been in the Great Lakes and the South/Southwest regions. Any place that invented House and Techno music and gave birth to people like Chris Farley and Bill Murray has to be anything BUT cold and stoic.

Yeah, seriously guys, this is the diplomatic way to handle things. Especially since it has already been shown irrefutably that coastal dwellers are better looking and smarter than the other population, which was displaced inwards and allowed to inbreed into oblivion. Glad this topic is dead!
