Is that good combination for the test? I mainly chose coconut water for the electrolyte amount in there and because Gatorade doesn't taste good for me even though it has electrolytes too. I chose granola bars because it tastes amazing and it has good sugar amount (despite the fat in there).

What do you guys suggest?

i am going to rock the traditional gatorade w/ cliff's energy bar.

however, coconut water is very good so that will do just fine (as long as it isn't the crummy kind that gives you a sore throat afterwards)! granola bars are banging. who cares about the fat content. you need something to look forward to when your on break! not something that will make you :barf:

you want something that's :corny:

i like your choice my friend.

LOL I like your use of smilies for real. Thank you and yea who cares about the fat content for one day any ways? I'm pretty much in shape though so I wouldn't care much.

Do yourself a favor and get some Focus XT powder, and premix it before hand. This may be purely luck (and probably is, but placebo is worth it) but I've taken about 15 practice exams and there is a 3-4 point difference in my scores when using Focus XT and when not.

Odwalla Bars are pretty awesome too. Just try to avoid that insulin crash.

that sounds like a nice idea. although sounds a bit risky to try it out for the first time on test day. hope it works for you though on your exam date lol.

Yea I'm afraid of too much sugar going in that's why I wanted to balance it with pure water but I don't really know yet 🙁

For the Focus XT, you mean mix it with the coconut water? In what quantity of powder?

I would recommend trying it on practice FLs before tets day.

I just use regular water. Although electrolytes are good.

It's a test, not a marathon. You don't need to cook up some crazy nutritional plan. Eat a healthy meal than won't make you drowsy beforehand, and bring something to snack and sip on in breaks.

I went with trail mix and a Pepsi.

Whatever works for you. Pepsi usually makes me get real amped and then crash shortly thereafter.

It's a freakin ~5 hour test guys, good lord. Why are there so many threads on what to eat before/during the test?! I didn't bring anything, just had a solid breakfast before it. On one break I went and got a few sips of water. The rest I just skipped and plowed through. If you really need to be analyzing your diet during the test, put some of that focus on something else like studying. You could literally bring a bottle of water and a snack bar and be just fine.

the old mcat seems absurd. how did people survive that?

oh yea. i had a few friends taking the old one. oh man they said that exam was tiring. but those people told me that its nothing in terms of endurance when it comes to taking an 8 hour USMLE step 2. with only 1 hour of break time that you have to decide when to use. so if u use 25 mins for a lunch break, you only get 35 minutes for the remainder of the schedule testing period :scared:

thats pretty rough lol.

nutrition is important. your big breakfast probably kept you going big. some people probably don't eat big breakfasts. (I do, i think it's absolutely necessary).

but it's also a 5 hour and 40 minute total testing time exam. which means you can go close to about 6.5 hours without eating maybe even longer. so its important to have something that fuels you.

just my .02 i could be wrong.

It's just a test, guys. It's not like you're going for a squat PR in the weight room or running a half marathon.

Pick something that will keep you energized and you're good to go. Just relax and don't fuss over little details like the exact thing you're going to eat during each break. If anything, that'll just take your focus away from the important thing...you know, the actual test.

I'm asking because I never took a real long test like that in my life and wanted to see what kind of food would be good to keep someone energized and focused but not sleepy or have intestine problems. That's all!

btw augustMCAT, i just realized you created an SDN id specifically for an AUGUST MCAT date haha. truly dedicated lol

You haven't taken the SAT or ACT? Both of those are about 4 hours long.

I did take the SAT but come on, SAT wasn't that much important to me because my college didn't require any real high grades so I barely studied for it.

not nearly as challenging as the MCAT in my opinion. i didn't need that much energy/brain power to do well on that exam. it was a straightforward test that didn't make you think as much.

You want low GI carbs or any carbs with a fat source.
