I need some shadowing hours and I heard asking your own doctors doesn't usually work out. Before I start cold calling, do any of you have any advice about what to say?

I'm looking to try to get some clinical exposure and I am interested in observing the day to day routine of pediatric dermatological neurosurgery. Would you be willing to let me shadow you for [length of time]? If not, would you be able to point me towards someone who might be able to assist me with setting up shadowing? Thank you, I really appreciate it"

Or something like that.

if you're in Pre-Med club or MAPS, then they could help you. They already have contacts that are willing to take on pre-meds for shadowing.

I can't see why - I would think that it would be reassuring to know that your caller is not a serial killer!

Thank you all! But how do I contact them? There are only office numbers online and I feel like the receptionist would immediately filter out my call.

Call the office and say you're interested in shadowing and see what happens.

You would think so! Some people I just don't understand...
