Cold calling EM programs?

So, I'm a military GMO and am ready to go back to residency. I'll save you all the details of my unique situation, but for those that aren't familiar with GMOs, I've essentially completed an intern year and then been practicing as primary/urgent care doc for my unit for the past 3 years. Whether I choose to try to do a military residency, do a civilian residency paid for by the military, or just get out and do a civilian residency as a civilian is still kind of up in the air, but but because of my situation I'm kind of unable to hit certain wickets that I think are expected of an EM applicant.

So, to any PDs here, if I were to somehow find your email and shoot you a message explaining my situation, would you find it inappropriate or not?

EM APD here. I'm happy to help. Also, I'm an ex-Navy doc. I get it. Feel free to DM me. The short answer is, you aren't really expected to have a bunch of SLOEs. You are going to be 4 years removed from med school or more as a GMO. It's a different approach to the application.

One of the senior residents I was paired with on my MS4 rotation had done two GMO tours and then matched to Big Fancy Academic Center EM program with 0 SLOEs. I also know my PD frequently gets emails from med students about all kinds of topics, so I doubt there would be any problem reaching out to PDs and applying without the typical application requirements. I suppose any program that gives you a hard time over just trying to talk to them is not a place you'd want to spend 3 years at.
