COLD weather interviews?

Hello, I have a few interviews lined up and I just realized that it will be snowing at most of the places.

I have lived in south florida my entire life and the coldest weather ive been in is lik 30 degrees.

My question is, what do i wear to stay warm but still look formal? I also get hot real easy and sweat a lot. I also sweat when i get nervous and i will probably be very nervous during the interview. It would be best if i can take some layers off for the interview so im not sweating like crazy.


PS. im a little tight on money and will be buying all this cold gear.


Any advice would be much appreciated!!

The only way to stay formal in the cold is to get a wool overcoat, which will keep you warm. A bubble jacket isn't all that formal. Once inside you can take it off and your suit will be fine, granted they have the heat on Also, you can get a scarf, gloves, and a hat to help against the elements.

BTW, I got a good deal on a charcoal gray overcoat at the Burlington Coat Factory, not sure if there are any by you. Finally, you could prob get away with out an overcoat at all if all you have is a bubble jacket because you'll take it off as soon as you walk in the door, its not as if the interviewer will be standing there to check on what kind of jacket you're wearing, right?

Don't forget about footwear either. Depending on where you're staying, you might have to walk outside through the snow to get where you're going. The best option is to wear boots outside then change into your nice shoes inside. Otherwise just be sure to bring an extra pair of socks in case yours get wet so your feet don't freeze!

I'm also a pretty big fan of the hand and toe warmers you can get at camping stores. They're single use, but pretty inexpensive, and so great to have when it's cold.

If you are really tight on money, go to Goodwill, Salvation Army, or other second hand stores. I found a lovely long wool coat for $12 at a second hand store. I looked it up - would have cost over $600 new. And nothing wrong with it. Nothing. They have men's and laides coats.

Get a scarf - a nice soft one. They're cheap - less than $10.

If you're wearing pants, you can wear boots under them, but nice boots are expensive.
Winter boots can be expensive, but go to DSW and you can probably pick up a pair of winter boots that are decent utilitarian (but not too ugly) for about $60.

And gloves. Not too expensive either. But a necessity.

If you're thinking hat, be aware it will probably mess up your hair if you're vain. Try ear muffs. Again, under $20 for the ones that are 180 degrees - wrap around the back of your head and cover your ears.

Check with Men's Warehouse and Jos A Bank...I had to buy a wool overcoat for the same reason, and got a good deal because they were on sale (don't remember which store I finally bought from, sorry)...Not much demand for them here in Florida (I'm from Orlando)...

I would go to Burberry and buy a nice 100% cashmere scarf, its nice and warm in this type of weather.
Also check out Hugo Boss, they have a nice selection of jackets that are formal and warm.
