I took Organic Chemistry I and II and Organic Chemistry I and II Lab at my state university the summer after my freshman year. I got all A's.

Now in college, I retook Organic Chemistry (because I don't get credit). When I apply to medical school, I will report the grades from my state university. However, how will they play into my GPA. I retook the class in college and got all A's (didn't hurt that I took the class already).

Do they average my grades? Do they count them separately and count it toward my GPA? Does this count toward a completely separate GPA?

Not really sure how this is viewed, since I took this in high school. The university I took it at is a medium-low state university if that matters (top 50 in the North Region by USNWR). When I retook the class, it was at a top private university.

Well, I know the answer, but since you requested LizzyM answer it, I'll just let her take care of it.

If LizzyM or someone could answer this, that would be great.

The classes you took in high school at your state university would be assigned a status of "HS". You would see a separate GPA for that status.

However, it would also be counted in your cumulative undergraduate GPA, which would include your retakes in college as well.

Because you couldn't use it for credit, it makes sense that you'd retake it. It should be fairly apparent you weren't retaking it because you did poorly the first time, so I would think it wouldn't negatively affect your application.
