Anyone know if Dental Schools hit your GPA down a couple notches if they see you went to a college instead of a University.

My school only had around 3-4 thousand people. It is a decent size college. Do you think my gpa of 3.7 will take a hit or criticism by the admission committee

Although I really have no idea what they think I do not see it being a problem, I would think a 3.7 from almost anywhere is great. You shouldnt have any problems

there is some published list (not US news) of all accredited colleges and universities that ranks the overall difficulty of each school. it's listed somewhere on these forums, i just can't find it.

some schools pay attention to it, others do not. i can't imagine having a 3.7 from any school would look bad.

If you are coming from a smaller school just make sure you do well on the DAT, this is the only easy way for dental schools to compare applicants on something that everyone has to take. Say someone has a 4.0 but can only get 16/17's... their DAT score will make the adcoms think their grades are inflated.

Actually, I do think that schools *should* take into account the reputation of the school, the difficulty of the curriculum, and the competitiveness of the students. I went to Rice, where the competition was fierce and cut-throat, and I can't imagine that a 3.7 from Rice is really equivalent to somewhere like Houston Baptist University. This is *not* a snub to folks that went to HBU, but merely the reality.

I wanna see that for curiousity's sake. 🙂

BTW, congrats on Maryland, JB. I wanna apply, but I don't think I can get the chem letter. 🙁
