Hello!

I'm a (prospective 🤞🏽) non trad dental school applicant. I'm currently working as a registered nurse and am looking to complete pre-reqs + finish my bachelor's. My goal is to strike a balance between being a strong applicant and caring for my finances.

I would love to hear outsider perspective on these questions:

1) For core requirements, could taking the credits at a state university vs. CC impact how my application is perceived? How about summer / winter courses vs fall / spring courses?

2) There are many online schools that offer RN to BSN programs for lower prices than my state school. Would a online bachelor's be perceived negatively by admissions committees?

I have many other questions, but as I start my journey these are the big ones I'm having some trouble finding concrete answers to.

Hi there! I am a registered dietitian and will start D1 in August.

1. I went to a state school and several CCs. My bachelor's was through my state school. Several prereqs have been through CC (O Chem, Bio 2, Physics). I've taken pre-req courses during all semesters including summer. It's okay to do what works for you as long as you can do well. Be sure to check if your schools of interest have a limit on community college credits.

2. RN to BSN online, possibly alright. Keep in mind it is highly recommended to take upper-level science classes like genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, etc. which may not be covered in an RN-BSN bridge. Ideally, your coursework should demonstrate your ability to handle the rigor of a dental school curriculum. FWIW, I completed a MS in clinical nutrition online that was bridged with clinical experience. Clinical experience will definitely work in your favor but try to ace your coursework.

Hope that helps! Message me if you have any other questions - I'll try my best to give an answer 😀
