Colorado Acceptances and Rejections

oh, good point volley1, OOS here as well, so there are two waitlists for IS and OOS? Thats the first time I've heard of it, but it would definitely make sense, does the OOS state usually move slower than the IS?

Not sure that two waitlists would make any sense. It's certainly the first I've heard of it.

So, for those of you also receiving the 3rd tier waitlist death kiss, I've been there. Right now I'm a first year there. When I was waitlisted I was totally crushed. I knew I wasn't getting in, and it wasn't just me looking for a new place to relocate to, but my husband too. It wasn't pretty. But, I went to the meeting with the Dean, and he (a different dean at the time) told me exactly what I needed to do. I did everything he told me, and the next year I found out I was accepted a week after I interviewed. I was really bitter after the first year, but the year in between being rejected and starting med school was one of the best years of my life. I was relaxed and I found an job to really make me sure that medicine is right for me. It sucks worse than anything else right now, but if you have any questions for me, let me know. You can do it, but it's alright to feel bad. It's also all right to go somewhere else. I like going to CU, but bottom line, if you get accepted somewhere you feel you can go, do it. MD from CO = MD anywhere. I'll be checking this thread, so if you have any questions feel free to either PM me or post to this one and I'll post back. Best of luck..:luck::luck::luck:

Applying to medschool is such a ridiculous waiting game. I'm not the type to get nervous but good-lord, even I'm getting antsy. I wish I hadn't taken the tour of the new campus; if only I didn't have images of plush study areas galore and sparkling autopsy classrooms.

Anyone planning on working during at least the first year of school? I pretty much hate my job, so I'm tempted to quit regardless, just wondering if anyone had heard about how hard it would be to keep a PT job.

Is anyone who was waitlisted in the lower third planning on attending the May meetings if you are NOT reapplying next year? Or should we just accept that there's no way we're getting in haha

I've heard that the may meetings are extremely useful and actually pretty unique. Supposedly the review is extremely candid and helps the applicant define the strengths and weaknesses of their application and interview.

I called Sean today and scheduled my May alternate-list meeting. Apparently everyone at my meeting will be in the middle-tier like me. Sean said that we'll have a presentation about the waitlist, will receive packets with info about our application, and then talk about our individual chances. Oh, and we'll talk about reapplication, I think. I believe he said the whole thing takes about an hour and a half. Dress is casual.

It doesn't really matter what they thought about my application because I won't be reapplying, but I sure am curious to find out. Since I'll already be 30 when I start med school if I can't get in off of the waitlist, I'm going to enter a D.O. school instead of reapplying to CU. If I was younger I'd probably try again, but I'm just ready to get this whole med school process started.

you talk to sean a lot.

I was in the same boat. I didn't really know how much I wanted this, like above all else- as opposed to "I want this the most of a few really sweet options," until about a week ago. I'm in the top third of the waitlist but unfortunately for my significantly better half I think I'd reapply if I don't get in this year. Are you applying to CO's new DO school?

I went to the unsuccessful applicant meeting last june/july...and might go again after my recent rejection. It does help, they tell you how the breakdown of all interviewed applicants via gpa, bcpm, and mcat. And then they tell you personally why you suck. For me it was "your grades and macts are slightly below our class average. your interviewers judged your health care experiences to be substantially below average. Now that you are out of college, you should definitely consider taking a full-time research or clinical position as you apply again."

I did this and have done research for 40 hours a week since september but still flat out rejected. I believe they weight gpa and mcat too much (opinion linked with my low gpa and mcats). If you have any questions on this send me a PM because i am stopping my subscription to this thread now that i am a reject (x2)

If I would you, I would go to it. I am sure they note who did and who didnt.

I called him to ask about release of results and then he sent me an email today instructing me to call and schedule an appointment.

Nope, did not apply to Rocky Vista.

top 1/3 in state. but i wont be going so maybe it'll make room for one of the middle 1/3's out there. good luck to all of you.

mc im super surprised you didn't get in with your stats. they are amazing..

thanks.. wish you were my interviewer! lol

For all the people who advise going to those meetings... do you think it's a waste of time if you don't plan on reapplying? (keep in mind I'm in the lower third)

Sweet. My dad teaches residents and he says that the DO residents are amazing. He advocated my applying to DO school because he has been so impressed with their performance and education.

That is always nice to hear. I would love to stay in Colorado, but I really just want to be a physician. If CU and my upcoming interview don't come through, I'm headed to KCOM.
