Colorado Admissions Stats

Yeah, I came here to post this in the CSU portal thread. Jeez, they had 47 applicants for the DVM/PhD program! I guess it's fairly easy to apply to at this school, so why not. But still, wow...

You guys made my stomach do a backflip with I saw this thread!

And if it is any consolation to OOSers, there were 24 more IS applicants this year than last. In staters have about a %20 chance by my estimation (removing IS seats for dual degree and vet start folks). SO glad I put all my eggs in this basket🙄.

Now that at least some dual degree programs have been decided upon, is anyone else starting to really freak out? The way I see it, "late November" could start any day now.

Not freaking out, but getting antsy. I'm hoping to procrastinate filling out my Wisconsin supplemental until I hear from CSU (so hopefully I'll find out one way or the other before Dec. 6th,) and since the phased admissions PDF says we should find out mid Nov-mid Dec, I'm hoping like crazy that if I get rejected its not during finals week.

For what it's worth, the DVM/PhD rejection page says

We hope to notify Nonsponsored and Colorado candidates of the outcome of the regular admissions process by late December.

So it seems like it could likely be more on the mid-to-late side than the early-to-mid side of December. It would be nice if it were earlier, though! I enjoy collecting rejections. 😉

Oh yeah, did anyone else's materials tracking page link disappear? I know around now was when they said all materials had to be received, so it would make sense if they stopped that.

Whoooooa.....1,200 OOS applicants for how many slots? 40 or so? Yikes!

I knew there were over 2,000 applicants last year but that was after I had already received my rejection letter!

MBA/DVM 17
Man, I should have applied for that. Wouldn't have minded finishing my MBA in Colorado! But alas, I thought it was all or nothing. But a 5 / 17 chance would be nice vs...whatever we have now (can't seem to find how many OOS seats CSU does).

If I remember correctly, according to the admission stats for the past few classes that CSU has posted on their website, there are about 18-20 OOS seats. I seem to remember it being slightly different each year (18 one year, 20 the next, 19 after that, etc.). I could easily be wrong, though. 😳

You're right... it does seem to vary a bit from year to year at least according to http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/profile.htm

I have a love/hate relationship with that page! Sometimes I feel better when I look at it and compare my stats, but other times I look at it and think about all the hard to quantify things that I am probably lacking!

Me too, that's why I applied to so many schools. 😀

Yup, mine too.

ETA: Props to the admissions department for dealing with all those materials from 1700 applicants! I emailed them over a weekend about my transcript issue (after checking on my end) and I received a reply that Monday assuring me that they would still consider my application even if my transcript had not gotten there by the 15th and another reply Tuesday saying that they had found my transcript. I appreciate the consideration given that they certainly have no shortage of applicants!

Wow I feel ALOT less horrible about being rejected from their DVM/PhD program now. 4/47 applicants is super competitive...feel slightly mollified now.

Oi! So instead of a 1/30 chance, it's a 1/60 chance.

Does anyone know approximately how many non-sponsored applications make it to the final round?

Good luck people. Last year they accepted 2 out of 50 people from their own MS program designed for their wants. 😱 Thus I am at MN.

TrocarKarin I am feeling the same way! CSU and WI are my first choices... and I am really beginning to feel like a CSU is a longshot as an out-of-stater. This is getting a little off-topic, but have you talked to any vet students at WI? Based solely on tuition for OOS, I should pick WI (if by some miracle I get into both and have the decision). I know the program at WI is strong, but I don't know too much else. Willing to share why you are interested in WI, but only as a "back-up" for CSU? PS you aren't the only one procrastinating on the WI supplemental...

CSU's my in-state. So its cheaper, closer to family, all that.

Hi guys,

http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/cvmbs/profile.htm

I'm sure that most of you have checked out the "statistics of admitted students" and I wanted to share a little insight into that. I'm not sure if this will ease your minds at all but as a current CSU 2013 vet student I would suggest taking those stats with a grain of salt. I say that because the page states that there were zero students admitted without an undergraduate degree (2013). I know at least 4 students in my class that were admitted without a bachelors. If that info is incorrect, I am not sure what else I trust about the reported info.

Good luck everyone!
