I'm wondering if anyone applied there out of this group of folks... Their website says that they should notify us by March 1. I'm anxious to hear as I'd really like to stay in Colorado for OT school, for obvious reasons (tuition, family, yada yada). This waiting is so tough! I don't like being in limbo!!!

I saw on a past year's entry on the school that people were able to check their status on Ramweb, but I don't see where that would be, if they are doing that this year. Anyone? 🙂

I know I'm dying to find out about Colorado state!! You can set up an account on ram web, but i dont think you will find out your status through there. https://ramweb.colostate.edu/index.aspx

I set up an account, but it just let's me put in and verify my info. Good luck, hopefully we'll find out soon!

Yeah, I have an account because I took intro to OT through CSU. I was able to verify my residency but that's it.

This is going to be a long two weeks!!! I feel like a dumb school girl waiting for a boy to call, checking to see if my phone has a dial tone.

Have you guys heard anything yet? CSU is my top choice and I'm getting soo impatient!

I haven't heard anything yet, either 🙁

Nothing in the mail today... 🙁 I was joking with my sister today that of course the year I'm waiting for VITAL INFO by March 1 is a leap year, just to add yet another day of waiting into the mix, lol!

It's very hard to wait, I completely understand! My fingers are crossed for you (and me too 😉 )!!!

I called today asking if we'd hear this week and was told no, but we should get our letters by next week. Good luck everyone! :luck::xf:

I can't take the waiting anymore!! Lol good luck to everyone! Just out of curiosity, are any of you from out of state?

Did anyone hear anything today or over the weekend? I'm dying over here. I actually have a class to drop (prereq for another school) if I get in to CSU... And my drop date is 3/7. So now I'm anxious about the admissions AND about not losing money if I do get in there...

I haven't heard anything but I called and csu said we should hear by the end of the week. It is so frustrating! Another school I was accepted to requires a deposit due the 8th or I decline my acceptance so I understand your dilemma slightly- good luck and hopefully you hear today! This experience is definitely character building

I got my acceptance letter today. I am so relieved and thrilled. Letters were mailed yesterday so those of you who are out of state, you should hear this week for sure.

Best of luck, I hope we get to know each other in Ft. Collins this summer. 🙂

Do you mind telling me your stats?

observation hours:
Test scores
GPA's

I haven't gotten my letter yet (I'm out of state). I know I was a compettitive applicant but If I decide to reapply (should i need to) I'd like to know what an accepted applican't looks like!

Thanks Girl! 🙂 Congrats to you

Congratulations mco316! How exciting 🙂

I don't know if CSU counts or requires observation hours... Their website outlines how they scored applications and ranked them. Here's a link: http://www.ot.cahs.colostate.edu/programs_admission/documents/AdmissionsReviewProcess.pdf

Here are my stats:
Prereqs: 4.0
Cumulative: 3.3 (although really it's a 3.5--OTCAS included my grades from my junior year abroad, which are graded on a whole other scale than in the US--not to mention my undergrad institution didn't include study abroad grades in cum GPA... I know I shouldn't be complaining but that really bothered me about OTCAS)
GRE: 1140 combined (I don't remember the separate numbers but I know I was in a pretty low percentile--like 35th--for the Q section) and a 4.5 for AW. This was the first year for CSU to require the entire GRE... In past years they only needed the AW section. By complete luck and my own hubris/curiosity I took the whole thing (without studying for anything but the AW section), and then the next month they announced that they would require the whole test. Thank goodness I took the whole thing.

I did observe for 80 hours in a number of different interventions/levels of service all in peds.

When I went to the info sessions last summer they stressed again and again to "read the prompt VERY CAREFULLY" on the personal experience essay so I did do that to make sure that every aspect they were asking for was answered, especially as our "grade" on that essay was apparently 25% of our admissions rank.

Good luck to you! I hope you get good news tomorrow!

Thanks girl! 🙂 your help is very appreciated...

I have been talking myself off the shelf for like a week now... My letter was supposed to come today but has not ~lame~. I'm totally freaked out b/c I could only afford to pay for 4 schools at the time & 2 are a no go (waitlist) 🙁.... so imagining the worst, hoping for the best at CSU & frantically looking for other schools where you can apply late! lol

OTCAS with GPA sucks I know! don't be embarassed, I was pissed too!

If you have any advice here are my stats: (like other schools, etc.) - thank you again! 🙂
GPA cum: 3.6 (w/o OTCAS) 3.5 (with otcas b/c they counted prereqs).
Prereq GPA: 3.8
GRE: I am visually disabeled... I suppose that's why I'm rooting so hard for CSU - they were the only school that offered to "throw out" 2 parts of the GRE (I chose to submit the verbal portion but it still sucked! (460).

Could you give me your opinion? I honestly didn't know "what" counted for observation hours....& never asked anyone else... (thank you! 🙂

40 "observation" hours in the U.S. (a hospital & school). - i know that counts
volunteer at a nursing home, working alongside an OT BUT she was assigning me stuff.
volunteer at a school with special needs kids under the direction of the school OT...

I'm bi-lingual and worked abroad in an IT company last year... besides that i bet I look like everyone else!

I am now resuming my post at the front door with a margarhita 😉 (I'm sure the neighborhood/ mailmen think I'm nuts by now)... lol

Thanks again! & Congrats!

Got accepted!

And wood1220: you have great stats- the waiting is soo hard but you'll hear either today or tomorrow if you're out of state. My stats:
GPA(otcas): 3.87
Pre-req: 3.8
GRE: 4.5 w, can't remember my other scores but math was75 percentile and writing was 53 percentile
Hours: 75 w/ OT

Also, will anyone be in fort Collins over the summer? I'm moving from the east coast to CO in June and am looking to meet people!

Thanks Crt12 🙂

Congratulations to you!!!

Congrats! Are you definitely going to accept?

I will move up to Ft Collins this summer. I need to talk to a real estate agent/property mgt company sooner than later, although I doubt I'll head up there before July... I have a family so I need to figure out schools and so forth, as well as working on planning the summer so everyone is properly occupied, lol. I'm targeting an 8/1 move but could move earlier if I found the perfect place.

PM me if you want to exchange info.

wood, I'm sending you positive vibes and hope the mailman delivers great news to you tomorrow. :luck:

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking this board for a bit, but only just registered to post. I found out that I got into Colorado today (!!) I was not expecting to because most of my pre-reqs are in progress, but anyhow, this is great. I live in Brooklyn and I've never been to the west coast, so I feel like it makes sense for me to visit before I make a final decision. (I got into one other place, Chatham in Pittsburgh, but I don't really want to go there.)

So does anyone have any suggestions of how to arrange a visit to the campus, maybe sit in on a class, where to stay (I could always use couchsurfing) etc? And what is the weather like there? And would it be possible to live there without a car?

All insights and comments appreciated.

Congrats Elana! You should call the department to arrange a visit.

We have pretty awesome weather here in CO... We do get snow and it gets cold but our winters are not really harsh, the snow tends to melt between storms if that makes sense. Summers are dry and hot. It's sunny here ~300 days a year, which is good for the mood even when it's cold. Ft Collins is lovely, has a reservoir near town and is only about 30 minutes from the mountains... Outdoorsy playground galore. 🙂

I can't speak to living w/o a car in Ft Collins. We definitely don't have the public transport that you are used to.

I want to arrange a visit so I can get a feel for FC, the campus, sit in on some classes, and meet some faculty members, but I see that CSU is on spring break this week. I've been calling various people but getting their answering machines-- I want to buy a plan ticket today, since I'd like to come next week (so that I don't miss any of my classes, my spring break is next week) but I want to make concrete plans/communication with someone in the know in the department before just booking and ticket and showing up, just like that.

Any advice? Is anyone else planning a visit in the next few weeks? Does anyone have travel advice coming from NYC, as far where to find the cheapest flights?

I am unsure about NYC to FC, but to find cheap flights I usually try checking southwest, or kayak.com. if you don't have a frequent flyer affiliation and if which airlines you fly is unimportant, then check hotwire. I believe they have started to do flights as well. Do you know if the faculty will be returning next week?

For flights check Priceline and do the name your own price if you don't care about what time you fly. OT is about 30% cheaper than a regular ticket.

Sorry- my phone autocorrected. I meant It not OT.

Well I'll be there from next Wed. (a week from today, march 21) until the following monday the 26th, so if any of you locals feel like meeting up, let me know!

Hey Elana! I'm visiting as well and will be exploring Fort Collins that Sunday and visiting the OT dept. on Monday if you want to meet up and explore together! I'm coming from Brooklyn as well! Feel free to email me if you want to make plans ([email protected].) - Laura

Hi! I wish I had seen your message before I went this past weekend. Did you enjoy your visit, and what were your thoughts about it? I'm from southern California, and our flights from Southwest ranged from $77 to $260. I'm most likely accepting, but it'd be great to hear from another fellow student who visited as well. 🙂

Hey, I'd be happy to talk to you about it, but am feeling too lazy to type stuff out right now, can you email me?

Hi everyone, congratulations to those who got accepted =)
I've decided to attend CSU, I'm visiting in a few weeks, would anyone be willing to share their visiting experience?? I'd love to know what to expect! thank you.

Congrats FirePlace!!! I live in Denver and will be moving up to FC this summer. I'm currently looking for a place to live and have been driving up quite a bit to look at rentals... I've visited twice for tours/info sessions before applying. What do you want to know specifically? 🙂

Congrats FirePlace! I visited from out-of-state a few weeks ago. I'm sending in my acceptance today! Just like what mco316 asked, did you have any specific questions?

Thanks mco316 and shammster. It's so nice to see people on these forums being so nice and supportive...

I guess I'm interested in anything related to the program and fort collins itself. Really. Anything. What makes it special in your opinion? What are the classes like if you've sat in one? What's fort collins like? Where are you planning to live? It's a bit hard to apartment hunt from out of state and I have this uncontrollable massive anxiety over what my new home is going to be like. (I've looked at a few but I can only learn so much from the interwebs) thank you so much..!

I'm sure Shammster can speak to the classes, as I've never sat in on one. The OT building is in a big old building on the corner of campus. They have three floors, include an ADL lab (full kitchen etc), a big assistive technology lab. I thought they had a program where they partnered with a few other agencies to help returning vets, but I can't find it on the website so maybe the program has ended... They seem to do a lot of research on brain function and have a couple of special labs for rehab and developmental disabilities related to neurology...

Fort Collins is adorable. It's a smaller city 1.5 hours north of Denver. I like it there, and as a Colorado native I'm willing to move there, if that endorses it at all... I have no concerns about safety or anything like that. It's generally viewed as a great place to live.

I spent some time last weekend and Monday looking at apartments and I have to say I've not been impressed. I am older and have a family so I'm looking for places probably out of the general area of the university. If I was an unencumbered 20-something I would look to live w/in walking distance of campus and Old Town, and my greatest advice so far would be to talk to the property managers very frankly about what you're looking for. It's a competitive rental market and some places are complete dumps so don't just believe the pictures on websites.

It's been a while since I've rented and I was completely shocked at the state of some of the apartments I looked at on Monday. The first one I saw REEKED of pot, the second was so filthy I thought I was in an episode of hoarders. It makes it very disheartening!!! I know they clean the places between renters but what my eyes have seen, they can't UNsee, LOL. Let's just say I've reconsidered my budget. There are a number of places that require no one under 23, and so forth. We just have to keep looking. I can't believe that all the apartments in FC are hovels. 🙂 If you can come out to actually look at the places that would probably be best.

Hey, so I visited a few weeks ago and sat in on some classes and talked to anyone and everyone, and really got a feel for the place (at least I think/hope.) I got a really positive vibe, and the teachers I encountered really seemed to have their heads on straight and have some salient information to pass on. A bunch of genuine folks. Good vibes.

As far as living situations, I saw a few people's houses (couchsurfing, made fast friends...) and I didn't encounter anything hovel-esque. But then again, I'm young and broke and will settle for most. I plan to find a room / share using Craigslist I suppose, something in the summer.

I'm sure you know this already but gender ratio is like 99.5 % female, .5% male.

I didn't get to sit on any classes, but I did speak with a professor and he was very welcoming and and answered all my questions about the area and the program. mco316 gave a good description about Fort Collins and it being a smaller city. I loved the feel of the campus when walking around it, and I think it'll be a nice contrasting experience to where I currently live now (big city). I'm actually having anxiety also while looking for housing because I'm from out of state. But I'm hoping we all find something that works for us! Fireplace, would you mind sharing your thoughts after your visit?

Elana, thanks! I can't wait to meet the .25 of a boy in our class ha.

shammster, I'll definitely share my trip, hopefully I'll get to see ideal living places... I'm out of state too! blind apartment hunting is the devil. I'm from southern california, so I've been spoiled by the sunny weather here, but I am excited for snow!

Anyone heard anything about their app? I think we still have a few weeks but just wanting to hear from other applicants...

I am anxiously waiting to hear back as well. Last year I applied and no one heard back until March.. I figure we probably won't hear back until March again this year.. Good luck to you!!

oh wow, I will be a nervous wreck if I don't hear back by the end of the week. If we all got our applications in on time, they should let us know on time. 🙁

Anyone hear from CSU yet?

Agh, I'm Dying to hear!!! Let us know when you guys find out!

Just looked on the website and it says Notification letters will be mailed on March 8, 2013. So next week we should be hearing back from them!

Just looked at the website again. It looks like they are mailing them March 11 now. How many times will they push the date forward?

Oh my goodness, driving me crazy!!

I got my acceptance in the mail today. I live in California, so I think most people should be hearing today or soon. 🙂
