Never fear.....where there is a computer, there is always doggie..... 🙄

You guys worry too much. Stop getting all crazy even before dental school starts....there will be plenty of time for you guys to freak out before graduating in may 2008.

Fred: I dunno about Dallas BBQ...... might I suggest Patsy's Pizza or Carmine's or El Malecon or Saigon Grill............

Halitosis: What part of texas are you from? I'm chilling (actually baking) in dallas now.....100F and 90% humidity. Good thing my AC's got an "arctic" setting.

Well I think the other places are farther from school. Mainly picked Dallas BBQ cause its reallly close by so people can find it really easily

so for the person that was anxious about getting your student account statement...it should have/or will be arriving very soon cause I just got mine 🙁 sigh, i wish i had rich parents.

Hey stargirl,

Do you konw if I could just install my AC myself instead of paying the 25 bucks to have the school do it. I just picked a nice AC up at walmart for 45 bucks.

Ok so I won't get busted right if I just throw that baby in myself? If I do I'll just tell them stargirl made me do it. Yeah its got a dandy little remote and its all digitized and stuff. Can't believe it only cost 45 bucks. Walmart if the best store in the universe.

there is a fun website

http://ibihost1.com/nycdoh/web/html/rii.pl

search for restaurant inspection record!

dallas bbq on broadway has "Evidence of, or live flies/other insects present in facility."
and how about wendy's?
"Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility."

x cafe has 3 violations
Reme's has 4
Wimpy's has 2

there's a good news... Mcdonald's has ZERO violation!

I know we talked about this earlier in the thread, but are there any specific programs or features we need for computers? I remember reading about specifications in one of the memos we received but I can't find it. I guess anything that's got Word, internet, the usual should be good enough?

And do people take their laptops to use in clinic?

Thanks! 🙂

Yeah, you need a 8.9 gigahertz dual macintosh and amd processor with A.I. software.......not. 😀

You pretty much dont even need a computer to survive in dental school.......cept for the occassional term papers. Everyone is stressing out too much. CHILL PEOPLE! 😎 🙄

that comment for dallas bbq makes it sound like a real clean place for new york....

i remember eating at this one restaurant... "L'anaan" or something like that and it got shut down by the inspectors right there as we were eating...

Yeah a few flies in a nyc eatery is basically the best your gonna get. When you take that bite out of your salad you dunno if its a crouton or a fly. It's more interesting that way. 🙂 So discolphie are you going to join us at dallas bbq?

Besides, Dallas BBQ has an outside eating area too! So what can you expect?

We used to go there a lot for the early bird specials......then we slowly realized the food sucked and basically stopped going. I guess we got sick of the same stuff over and over. But the early birds special is cheap considering the amount of food u get........1/2 chicken, fries, corn bread, and chicken soup for $4 or something like that.

Doggie said:
nice.....now i can put **** bombs in your box.... 😀

Damn knew i shouldn't have listed my mailbox #.....or is it my mailbox #.......alright its my mailbox #

i think you guys need to stop posting your address up on line... 🙁

then where do you go now?
usually i don't see a reason to stay around here if we're going out for food...

Stargirl and doggie, aren't you guys in the same class? Do you guys even know who each other are in person? Just wondering cause it seems like you guys don't really know each other personally outside of SDN.

.

quick question for the upperclassmen.

Does the georgian residence have cable/DSL internet access? Or do I have to

install roadrunner. I could only find some mumbo jumbo about a second phone

line on the columbia website.

Damn nobody seems to know who stargirl is. I'm starting to think that she's actually a fictional character made up by Dr. McManus for the purposes of attracting new students to columbia. Well I'm going to find out who she is and then I shall blow up her spot. MUHAHAHA

the towers, bard, and georgian all come w/ ethernet...but no tv cable 🙁

No Tv cable? can we purchase it or do we have to live without cable for the next year?

you can purchase...hehe what room are you in? I'll be coming by a lot now that i know you might have cable 😉

subscribe your own cable modem line if u wanna download stuff, or even *share* softwares online

skool is too damn cheap to give you unlimited bandwidth... they take note if you take up too much bandwidth downloading pr0n online, and make you write a 15 page report about internet bandwidth.... not that i did that, but i know someone who actually was made to do that, or else get a serious displinary action like they gonna fckin not let u graduate and write shiz about you on the dean's letter

and i remember something about maximum 60mb/hour upload limit, which is totally BS and stupid., i u/l more shiz than that and they can't damn do shiz about it mofos come and gime bichazzs

for cable television if u can find the cable switchbox by following the cable line inside your building u can just plug it in and get some channels
good luck finding time watching television muwahaha enjoyr ur last one week and welcome to hell
dr. moss once said... "4 hour sleep, you fail; 3 hours sleep, you pass". remember that, if you are looking for honours, try caffeine pills

yeah right. 3-4 hours. hehehe

No human can sleep 3-4 hours a day and still function normally. And the people who do sleep 3-4 hours every night prob get another 2-4 hours of napping during the day. I want to meet the kid who can sleep only 3 hours every night and never naps and is not on crack.

actually the quote is:
"5 hour sleep, you fail; 4 hours sleep, you pass".
but most people would say that's BS...even one of the prof from our first yr said that and not to follow it... but be warn there will be days that you will probably sleep 4 hrs or less (unless you're really on top of things and you're the type of person that sleeps before an exam rather than stress out...or if you're a superNERD...hehe j/k about the last one).
Don't worry, just try to keep up and what seems to work for my friends is the answer choice "C". [i really should try that sometimes]

Well I'm almost done packing. Two big bags. I'm trying not to go over the airline baggage limit. I'm cramming all my stuff in there. Now all I have left is the 13 hour flight over the ocean....and the gypsy cab ride to 168th. By the way, where do we pick up the dorm keys? Do I just go straight into georgian?

hmm the yellow cab fee for jfk to columbia is 44 (it's suppose to be all inclusive except tip)...and it's about 25 from La Guardia...

I'm coming from seoul, south korea

hey guys, congrats on your acceptances- I am applying for the 2005 year and just got an interview, i sent an email to them 2 days ago and still havent heard anything yet about the date or time, is that normal. and also what percent of people get interviewed and what percent of the people interviewed get in. thanks

I think they interviewed around 250 and accepted 70?. Which definately does not mean they mailed 70 acceptance letters. (many more, how much I don't know)
One dental school I interviewed at told me they have a freshman class of around 60 and mailed out 250 acceptance letters. I not sure about columbia though.
Also don't email them. Call them up and set up an interview date. If you applied to NYU or stonybrook it might be a good idea to schedule those interviews in the same week. Thats what I did.

brentwood Ca! nice... 😍

i think it's like an 80% chance of getting in after an interview...but if you're interviewing this early chances are you'll get in 😀

hey nnjh- I tried calling them but the only number that they gave me on the letter, that is on reference in books, and in the aadsas app is a message saying that I should email them. Do you guys have a number that they give accepted students that actually works, ha. also nyu doesnt start the review cycle till sept 15th so who knows when ill get an interview.

stargirl - where are you from and what undergrad?

and why did you guys choose columbia and any suggestions about the interview?

thanks, maybe ill see you next year!

the one down the street from you 😀 what school are you/did you go to?

*what i would do is scheldule and interview w/ columbia [possibly in oct so it gives NYU time]...call up NYU sept 15th and tell them if they can review your application and perhaps grant you an interview so you can interview at the same time...but i would be more articulate w/ my words...*

if you're still in school, it's best to do interviews at the same time... during winter quarter i was missing almost one or two days per week for interviews... NYU's pretty nice about schelduling you w/ Columbia... I had originally schelduled NYU a week before Columbia...and even tho they were full the day before my Columbia interview they squeezed me in 😀

I picked columbia cause of all the hot 3rd yr guys at the time of my interview j/k... i picked it cause it was the best school for me out of all the ones i got into 😀

I think you can find the phone numbers to all the departments including admissions on the Columbia webpage.
