What is this all about? I am going to contact the admissions office when it reopens tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone knew what they need them for since they seem to be the only school making this specific request.

I called a month ago and they confirmed that they wanted them. It probably just helps them out a bit so they don’t have to print out a lot of envelopes/labels, and having to double check the address. Instead they just have to open up you file and stick a label on the envelope that is heading your way.

We discussed it a bit towards the middle of this thread:

It's really not that complex.

They likely want them on hand so that letters can be easily addressed when applicants need to be contacted by mail. That way, admission doesn't have to waste time labelling envelopes or printing labels.

how do you make those labels? Can I buy my own labels from the store? Do they have to be typewritten?

You can buy them from any type of store that sells office supplies. Most word processing programs have settings that do all the formatting for you (like MS Word). Just tell the program what size/style labels you have, type in your address and print.

And you could probably get away handwriting it, but it’s not difficult to do it using a computer.

Just to give you an idea what they are exactly:

But you don’t have to buy 3,000 like that link.

I don't get it. Last year Columbia just used the labels that AADSAS provided them. Personally, I think AADSAS is being cheap, not Columbia. Apparently charging mad amounts of money isn't enough for AADSAS to provide schools with labels.

Lol... Wow... Lets not be nitpickers... Along the way they send you tons of stuff with those labels. Mostly financial aid stuff, i think orientation paperwork came with those on them. You figure there's a lot of offices sending a lot of stuff and the less times someone has to read your info and type out again the better... Its in your favor big time and takes 10 minutes... so relaaaax...
