It seems to me that columbia have left me in the "ignore for now" pile =/. I just looked through the old threads and people that meet their requirement (22AA +) that did not get an interview initially may get an interview post december.....

Sigh, sucks not to be first pick 😡and surprisingly they are already reviewing 5th batchers =/.

Anyways, if anyone know the past trend for columbia, please post it!

here are my stats for those that might ask: 2nd batch - 23AA/24TS/22PAT/nothing under 21 oGPA3.64 BCP/sGPA3.69 (without +/- is 0.1 higher). I'm just surprised I was not picked since I'm doing research (2500hr+) and volunteering (224hr + ) currently and a solid PS to boot.

You are certainly a viable candidate. I have a friend that interviewed with them last cycle with a 2.7 and 22:22:24 (Dat taken late dec). I am in the first batch, watching 4th and 5th batchers interview at uconn and other schools of interest. Luckily, I have 3 interviews to keep my mind occupied. Your time will come at columbia, keep your head up 👍

If we're in an earlier batch and we didn't receive an interview invite, does that mean we've been passed by for pre-Dec interviews?

Is that really how it works though? I'm not entirely sure that's the case because I think schools continually evaluate applications. At least that's what I hope because I was in the first batch and I didn't hear from Columbia either. Good stats too: 23 AA/23 TS/ 21 PAT, 3.9 oGPA, 3.7 sGPA, 3.9 BCP. So, I'm just trying to stay hopeful! 🙂

I guess Columbia is gonna interview people with AA 24+. 🙁
I wonder when will they notify us if they decide to interview us after Dec.

If columbia wants to fill up it's class, it can't only interview 24+. There simply aren't enough of 24+ to split between all the ivy's.

yea i know but I wonder why they skip over earlier batches with competitive stats and gave out interviews to later batches.

I think we should wait it out through the rest of August. Didn't they only starting giving out interviews yesterday?

But there are enough 23+ to split between all the ivys! 😱

actually if there are 14k applicants per year ( i believe thats how much it was annually b4) and 23 is top 1.3% that would make around 182 people with 23 or higher.

30(harvard) + 120 (penn) +80 (columbia) = 230. Still not enough 23 or higher to split among ivys 🙄

its 1.4% for 23+ and 2.7% for 22+ in 2009. I'm sure you are looking at the wrong chart.

http://www.ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/dat_users_manual.pdf

In 2009, 2.3% of those who took the DAT got 23+ (note the plus sign). That's about 322 people. I bet it's as high or even higher in 2012 (young people are getting recession pwned).

The Ivys are only Columbia, Penn, Harvard for no more than 230 seats.

322>230

Q.E.D.

1.4+0.6+0.2+0.1=2.3 (I added the percentages for those who got 23, 24, 25, and 26)

oooo i did not look at the entire thing but i see what you did.
I was only using the percentile and 23 being 98.7% for this year haha.

if you look at the percentile, let say 23 = 99.1percentile. That means the top 23 and the last 24 is 99.1 percentile.

what a 23 is really is between 97.7 and 99.1 percentile. so taht guy is actually right

A 22 is in the 97.7 percentile. That means 2.3% of test takers scored higher than a 22 (=23+).

I just want to get in with my 23 DAT. It seems like everyone here got 23 or even higher. Just made me nervous about my chance.

So many of those 23 and 24 DAT people are going to get accepted to their state schools as well and go there instead. I know I would; is the ivy name really worth an extra 100k?

Also I was first batch and have no interviews at all even with my 24/25/24. It sure doesn't feel good not "being picked first."

Dafuq? That is ridiculous..unless your GPA was not so hot..

which schools did you apply for? any red flags?

This thread is making everyone nervous. People used to say that as long as you have a 24, you have your choice of schools.

3.74 BCP 3.55 science 3.16 cumulative. I'm guessing my overall GPA has everyone's panties in a bunch even though I've had a 4.0 for the past 2 years. No red flags other than that; I was really expecting an early interview from Columbia since they're known for catering to high DATs. I obviously realize it's still super early and there's plenty of time to get interviews, but it's kind of discouraging to know that I was "passed over" because of one soft spot on my application.

For what it's worth. Got in last cycle with a 22aa/22ts/25pat. Interviewed nov 18, got my interview invitation sept 28. Completed my aadsas aug 28. There were a bunch of people in my group that had 23+ dats. Stop worrying about it

As you said..it is still early in the application. But seriously I gotta get off sdn..all these people with AA24 and no interviews anywhere is really discouraging.🙁

I have a theory that Columbia ranks its applicants by DAT scores and interviews in descending order. Last cycle, I had friends with 24AA and 21AA. The one with 24AA was given an invite early. 21AA had a surprise invite in October-ish.

Gracious. This thread is ridiculous. Please relax; Columbia interviews people until the beginning of APRIL. It's not even September yet...It's this sort of SDN drama that raises everyone's blood pressure.

When I interviewed at Columbia last year, the Dean said that Columbia isn't a first choice for most applicants. It makes sense; why would you want to pay 400k, when you could get the same degree for several 100k less?

Even so, I suggest patience. Despite submitting early, all of my interviews last year were post-December, and it turned out fine.

Anyone know how many people they have at a time for interviews? I emailed back about 4-5 hours after they emailed me and they said the first two Fridays were already full.

This post from last cycle seems to reinforce that theory.

Since Columbia doesn't have a secondary application, I think that they may be looking for a few different things in applicants over the course of the application process. Initially, it seems like they took those applicants with amazing DAT scores. As the interview process continued, they started to interview those people with slightly lower scores. I think that now, in the last 2-3 interview days, they are looking at applicants who are not nearly as competitive score-wise, but who have other ECs and leadership experience that would help contribute to the class's diversity. Personally, I didn't expect to get an interview, and I am so thrilled. It is refreshing to see a really great school looking at something other than just the numbers. (Not that I wouldn't trade my soul for a 24AA, haha, and I have major respect for those applicants achieved such a score!!). I think this hypothesis may be semi-true because someone posted on here a few weeks ago saying that Columbia Adcoms told him they were now considering offering interviews to applicants with lower DAT scores for the last few interview slots.

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't heard anything and I'm one of the 25AAs. I wouldn't care or worry until January. You can't do anything anymore so stop stressing and enjoy your youth while you can!

No interviews here yet either.
