A few days ago, I received a Columbia interview invite via email. I called today to schedule an interview date. They only conduct them on fridays, and the only available friday I have before thanksgiving break is 11/16. That week is jam-packed for me; I have work due for classes that week as well as two interviews on tuesday and thursday. Thus, I decided to scheduled my interview date for 11/30. How long do you think it will take them to get back to me regarding an admissions committee decision? Is it possible that they could get back to me the following week?

Its possible. I think they said that they will decide the following Friday on whether accept, reject, or waitlist. And since the following Friday after 11/30 is after Dec. 1st, they may be able to tell you. Although since Im sure its a busy time for them they might not be that quick.

Last year Columbia sent out the vast majority of their acceptances BEFORE Dec 1. I interviewed Dec 8th and they told us that there were 2 or 3 spots left to fill. I would very very seriously consider rescheduling to an earlier date if you're seriously interested in CU.

If you can go earlier, then that'll probably better. But if you really can't go earlier then don't sweat it, and here's some info to calm your worries:
I know people who interviewed Dec 1st last year and got a phone call later that day along with the other Dec 1st accepted applicants. Additionally even if there were only 2-3 open seats in early Dec last year, doesn't mean that it stayed that way. It just means they gave out a lot of acceptances, and hadn't heard back on whether all those people decided to go to Columbia or not. There's a lot of movement every year and there were still seats open when I interviewed in Feb/March last year.

well, i already scheduled it for 11/30. I mean are my chances really reduced if I interview that day. I feel I will be on top of my game (and well rested/prepared) if I go then rather than 11/16 when I have two interviews that week in different states. I think they offer acceptances to ~65% of the interviewees. Will that still apply if I interview on the 30th?

The thing is there is only 10/26, 11/2, 11/9, 11/16, and 11/30 left before 12/1. I'm sure 10/26 and 11/2 are filled up. I will be at temple on 11/9, and I have a busy week during 11/16. So that leaves me with 11/30. Should I try to switch it around with temple? Or do you think that it is not a good idea to pester the admissions centers about rescheduling?

thanks for the input!
