in the GHETTO... especially the medical campus... (I went to school in the Ghetto... USC... And Columbia is much worse)
I'd stay somewhere downtown in the city and take a cab/subway up to columbia.
I am also a new Yorker and very familiar with the city.
w00t harlem. the A train goes right to the Columbia Medical Center on 168th...so if you stay downtown, ask the hotel people where the closest A stop is. ALSO..its probably better to just get in a cab to go there, itll take <25 mins if no traffic or inclement weather.
Plus it could be the CASH CAB woowoo
