hey guys,

for those of you who already went to you columbia interview, did you guys have to write an essay, if yes, what was the topic?

Also, anything you remember would be truly appreciated

Nope no essay. The day is pretty chilled and the admissions committee is really nice and friendly. The interview really depends on who you get but most of my friends had similar experiences-- the interview is open file and he went over my extra curriculars and asked me to elaborate and a few other basic questions like why columbia but I dont even think he asked why dentistry.

Good luck

Yeah no essay, but this was not a very relaxed interview for me. The lady I got was pretty rude, after answering a question she would ask me it again as if I had said nothing. At the end of the interview she was going over her notes and told me the many things she had written down about me, and it was all wrong. I had a horrible interview experience there...

How did you guys find out the time and place to go for this interview. Mine is on Friday and I haven't heard anything from them at all!

Thanks!

I had the sweetest lady interview me. I feel I got really lucky on that note. As an FYI, I noticed that the faculty were all very engaged with the students in the pre-clinic and clinic, compared to other schools that I saw where the faculty congregated amongst themselves.

I disagree with this... it almost felt like we were in the way when I went. Very unorganized compared to all the other schools I have interviewed at.

I just went to the dental school and then asked the security guy near the elevator, I think you go up to the 3rd floor (I could be wrong). Your best bet is following everyone that is wearing a suit.👍

Hey guys,
I wanna know when did your interview at Columbia end? They said that at the end of the process there will be a campus tour, 1-3pm. Did the tour really take that long? Or did your interview end before 3? I'll have a flight at 5:30pm and need to arrange my transportation to JFK. Thanks for your input!

That's too bad that you did not have a good interview experience, because Columbia seemed to be a great school. I guess it just really depends on who you are matched with for the one-on-one interview, because it significantly influences the overall perception an applicant comes away with from visiting a school.

Also, you are absolutely right that it almost seemed like we were in the dental students/faculty's way on the pre-clinic and clinic floors because we were.

Seriously, Columbia seemed like it would be a horrible school. Everyone was so arrogant, the clinic was very outdated, living/tuition was very expensive, and the whole interview process was unorganized. I mean how many people have been on these forums asking about the confirmation email, most people had no idea where to go. Honestly though, I'm glad you loved Columbia and hope you get in. That's one less person I have to compete with... 👍 Good luck!

Wow, I find it very interesting how you continue to attack Columbia's dental program. I wonder if there is anyone on SDN, who had a POSITIVE interview experience, but agrees with Futuredentist09, or is it really just because of the "horrible experience." Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I honestly just don't get it. I am hoping others could chime in on their opinions of Columbia after visiting their program.

Just to clarify for others: People who contact columbia to schedule their interview through email should ONLY expect a "confirmation email." People who call to schedule the interview, like I did, should not expect a confirmation email, according to their invitation email. The location is also clearly stated in this email. But who knows, I may have received a different email from others who were invited.

BTW, thanks for the good wishes...i only wish the best for you as well.

I called, I was expecting this confirmation email... I got nothing. Just to clarify, Columbia just seemed like a horrible dental school for me. Everyone on here makes it seem like it's the top school in the nation, and that you would be an idiot to not pick them if granted an acceptance. I want to let people know, after spending about $500 on that trip, that I for one was not impressed. BTW it's not my horrible interviewer that made me feel this way, it was the school as a whole. Even if my interview had been easy I would still feel the same about Columbia (I thought I made that clear in a previous post... but guess not).
