Hi everyone. I'm curious as to how "tough" Columbia is to get into and by that I mean how important your GPA is versus GRE/Experience/PS/LoR. I ask because unfortunately, I am in a program that is far from what I wanted to study (young stupid decisions...) and I lost my father early on in my undergrad, which have impacted my GPA. By the time I apply, I will be looking at the following application (more or less):

GPA: 3.1-3.2 in Health Sciences
GRE: 90th percentile in all 3
Experience: 2 summers of administrative work in a booming private clinic, executive leadership position in NGO's university branch, research assistant for ex-CIO of Canada's 2nd biggest hospital in a healthcare governance paper

I know this isn't much to go on, but I'm really freaking out as to even being accepted anywhere due to my GPA... But Columbia's been my dream for a long time and expressing how Columbia will help me in my healthcare career and is the best fit for me will be very easy.

Thanks in advance!

Is that your actual GRE score or are you just guessing? Because if this is an assumption I should warn you it is very difficult to obtain. I had to get a 165 out of 170 just to get 90th percentile in math. I have found that practice tests are not a good gauge, especially paper-based ones, and you can't actually get a writing score back on those tests, computer or paper. If you truly did get that score then disregarding everything I just said and congratulations.

I did indeed get 90th percentile. Definitely wasn't easy, I agree with you there. I actually know a girl who got 94% V and 92% Q! Can't remember how much she got in W...

But yeah, I hope this'll help distract admissions from the low GPA...

Wow! Congrats! I don't know anything about Columbia or MPH programs, but I hope it works out for you.
