Does anyone know what will be happening during orientation week? Will there be time to chill outside of school or will our schedules be booked moving and getting things prepared? I am asking because my friends will be coming along to visit that week. If you have any insight, please let me know. Thanks!

check your pm

it's all fun and game 🙂 (with a few mandatory meetings...and white coat ceramony)

Congrats on choosing Columbia!

Y'all are gonna have a great time,

My roommate is working on orientation week and i can promise you guys that it'll be a blast.

I was wondering, did anyone get their housing applications yet?
I already sent in the application request form, but nothing in the mail.

I just called the housing office today, and they told me they have not sent housing appliations out yet. They should be in the mail next week? I'm trying not to worry about it, but I kinda want to know which dorm I will be in so I can do the appropriate planning!!

during your orientation
remember to say hi to the homeless people

that big building in front of the school is a homeless shelter

also watch out for dog poo

and learn how to cook before you come
or else either you starve to death or poison to death

and get used to co-ed bathroom if you moving to bard
guys, that is NOT a good thing

damn NYblows...
I'm curious as who you are. You must be preping for the boards and such stuff...
I am not too fond of NY myself, but it's totally growing on me...especially now that I'm back for summer break...I realize why I left Ca and didn't want to stay in the Bay Area.... and I did get into a Southern Ca school but I have no regrets about not going there. I am 99.9% sure I don't want to specialize but I honestly think Columbia was the best choice for me. I love it there. I love my classmmates and I couldn't have asked for more.
I know most Columbia dental student thinks that we have sooooooo much work and stuff to learn...but it's the same everywhere...and there's no reason to be bitter that we might go into a little more detail on certain things...in the end it'll just make us better doctors 🙂

Dear Mr. Blows,

If you hated Columbia that bad, why don't you try and transfer back to a Cali school? Don't just sit there and complain.

Funny you mention dog poo...I was walking down Park avenue yesterday and I saw some lady's dog drop a deuce right in the middle of the street. Instead of picking it up or having her doorman pick it up she just walked away. Therefore you can in it anywhere.

Speaking of dog poop---
My boyfreind and I were driving in NYC. I forget what street, but like everywhere else in NYC, there was traffic. We were at a stop light and it turned green. All the sudden, this girl with her pitbull dog says, "OH NO!!" Her dog started going to the bathroom (#2) right in the middle of a busy intersection, in front of our car!
We had to sit at the green light until the dog relieved himself while angry drivers honked at us for not moving.

i am just giving my personal opinion

if you like this school, good for you

i tried transfering

it's not undergrad where they look at your GPA and just let you in

oh enjoy ur orientation week... i can almost guess there'll be lots of alcohol ready for you all.
for the upcoming 2nd yr columbia students, is your 2nd yr president still the guy from BYU?
he's cool, i have met him before at a BBQ. ya, those BBQ's are always fun, with lots of hot dogs, burgers, and beer!!!

Mr. NYBlows,

I'm sorry you've had such a tough time.

Think positive, make a difference, and make the best of your experience here.

Play tennis next door, go to the gym and play b-ball, go to central park and play some softball, run down at the river or to ft. tryon park, go clubbin' with your classmates, go to the smithsonian, gugenheim, museum of natural history, time square, watch a broadway play, go to chelsea piers, take the 1 train to van cortlandt and go golf.

Do you see my point everybody.
there's plenty to do.

it's all about attitude. half full or half empty.

Hey Everybody.....

Well... it's been a long time since I've posted... but I'm Back!

Columbia is great! NYC is awesome! If you have any questions, ask myself, tj_lee, or stargirl!

As for you SDOS 2007... we're getting a great orientation week together. Don't worry... you'll have some downtime, but you'll also be partying!

Have a great summer, and congrats on getting in to Columbia!

Love your classmates? Ask them if they can HONESTLY say the same.

I'm not your classmate, but I'm touched. Now I only hope my classmates would say the same.

hey, i love my classmates TJ_Lee and Buckyball...they're awsome 🙂 and they know it too 🙂

Acrimonious, why must your classmates love you, why can't it be that YOU love them, and let that be the end of that?

It's sorta like what JFK said. don't ask what your fellow dental students can do for you but ASK what you can do for them!

that's not what he said? is it? was it? something like that! close to it, i think. Whatever.

I did try to love my classmates (some I still do). Remember the story of how the old man who felt sorry for the snake lying out in the cold weather and picks it up and puts it under his jacket to provide warmth, only to find out that the snake has bitten him?

Acrimonius,
you'll meet those type of people no matter where you go...it's unfortunate but they're everywhere 🙁 that's why you have to be choosey when you pick your buddies 🙂
