Any thoughts on Columbia Anesthesia? vs Cornell? vs NYU? vs Mount Sinai?

Is it try that they send selective post-interview thank you notes? Has anyone gotten them?

I love Columbia! They have a phenomenal hospital system with numerous opportunities for those who are academically oriented. Most of their specialties are pretty top notch. They do have weaknesses in pain and regional however. It's also kind of a shame that they are so far up in Washington heights. I think the residents try to sell the fact that the A train is express and will bring you downtown pretty quickly. However, I've been a NYer for a long time now and know the subway system pretty well. It really is a bit inconvenient, especially at night when trains don't run as frequently. The neighborhood isn't as bad as it seems. It is just full of old buildings and thus can give the appearance of being unsafe. The facilities are excellent and the peds hospital is awesome. The residents were extremely happy and the faculty that I met seemed pretty easy going. I think the PD and chairwoman are know to be a bit more hands off with the residents if that is a concern of yours.

That said, Sinai is just as comparable so it is going to be a really tough choice.

As for the selective emails, I do know of one person this year who received it (also spoke with others who interviewed and did not receive an email). Not sure when they started doing this but I know a current resident who never received an email and still matched.

Nope....no post interview note/email.

pretty much agree with all superhiro's impressions, columbia was def my favorite in nyc. the lack of regional might leave you at a disadvantage if you want to do private practice right after residency but the peds and icu seemed top class. it seemed like the upper west would be fun if you found an affordable place but washington heights would indeed be a bit of a bummer.

anybody know the time frame on those emails? i really liked the program but we're probably past the window in which i would have gotten one at this point...
