Ok. If money were not an issue (I am considering joining the Navy even if I go to Buffalo) and if someone is seriously interested in specializing, which school would you choose?

(I posted this in the pre-dent forum also)

 is that even fair to compare, COLUMBIA hands DOWN!!!

Contrary to what a lot of pre-dents on this forum think, your ability to specialize is not dictated soley by what school you go to. In fact, the two most important criteria are your class rank and your Part I board scores. For the most part, these two factors are controlled by you and your study habits.

So if you really want to specialize, you should choose a school where you can perform at your best. It really doesn't matter where you go. If you are ranked in the Top 5 and have 95+ board scores, you will likely match into the specialty of your choice, regardless of whether you attended an Ivy League school or a state school. If you don't believe me, you should check out the residency forums here or dentaltown. You'll see plenty of people in competitive residencies who attended state schools.

Good luck in your decision.

Dude you have too much bitterness and ignorance in you i wont even bother to lower myself to your ignorant ******ed comments, you dont know jack about me and i been on this forum with USEFUL threads more than three years, unlike your useless trolling ******ed attacks on people you dont even know. Go play with yourself while your mommy watches you, it will be more beneficial for the forum and gives you more time for what your in, playing with yourself and being bitter because something is screwed up in your head and life.

As a matter of fact i know alot, 5 best friends are dentists, and more than 30 undergrad buddies attend my state dental school, if anything i will never give advice if i didnt know about an issue.

Why do you check and give advice on Dental Forum? why? I am just curious.

Because I know alot about the field and the schools as i posted above, alot of my best friends are dentists and alot more are in dental school so I have alot of first hand advice and experience thru these friends that I am confident is useful to prospective or current dental students that have questions i feel that I can give advice to, if you dont want to take it let the others have a chance to read what i got to say and decide if they want to use my advice, other than that why are you in my business just post your posts as long as your not trolling and mind your own business.

I agree 100%
BTW IMHO what i don't understand is why would anyone want to specialize???? I love it all and wouldn't have it any other way! I'm built to be a jack of all trades and ace to none. This is the beauty of dentistry, TO EACH THEIR OWN.

the way you think that in the competition between buffalo and columbia, columbia wins hands down indicates you know NOTHING about dental school. I'm not saying columbia isn't a good school or that no one should pick it over buffalo but as far as quality of education and reputation, I'd say Buffalo is way up there with the big boys. Plus, the MASSIVE difference in tuition is in Buffalo's favour so the choice is not clear cut!

geezz...take it easy on the md2b. he/she seems to have some fair knowledge on the topic (even if a lot of it is hearsay...but then again so is most else on this board.
my .2:
agreed, most importantly, it depends on the individual...class rank, boards, extracurrics.
now in terms of training for gp, Buffalo is a better school both in clinic and didactic. patients seen and treated are aplenty.
i must say however that on my interview trails (omfs and ortho which were in the nyc and philly area), there were more columbia interviewees.. now that doesn't necessarily reflect on the school itself (there could've been more applicants, stronger applicants). maybe the best from buffalo didn't apply. but i did notice a higher proportion of students from columbia, michigan, mcgill, upenn. and harvard of course.
by the way, there was this girl in my dent school who did a bachelor's, and is also a speech therapist/pathologist (i think it only took 1 extra year after bachelors). she could basically choose where she wanted to go. i think in terms of planning on specializing, start something unique before dental school.

thanks to everyone for the great advice. i didn't mean to start arguments...oops.

Thanks for understanding and having the maturity a minority on this forum do not have. I consider those minority either immature, bitter because they hate dental school, or were wanna be med students, so I just take them for who they are, immature and bitter, but its refreshing to have an unbiased person like you on this forum understand that I am here to contribute from my experience with best friends who are dentists and others that are dental students, again you will always find those trolls who are bitter to be in the position they are now or just hate life and themselves that they have no self respect for others.

Heh i wish i could go to school for 3 hours a day and then go starbucks at 1 pm and talk about how hard gross anatomy and pharm are and point to the white lab coat hanging in my car when a hot girl walks by.

Dude, stop trying to stir stuff up, my best friend is in med. school and i really don't know anything about it, other than they learned the same things we did in gross anatomy, biochemistry, and histology

I was not trying to indicate anything useless, so lets stop the trolling on this thread and just kill it, man some people can be pesty and interpret stuff the wrong way and write useless comments that do not help the forum, if you feel like trolling, pm me, it will leave more space for those who want serious advice and want answers to REAL questions.

people like you make me laugh, why don't you use some intelligence and rationality in your responses. why run off with the "you're a wanna be med student" bit? that statement alone confirms that you in fact know very few dental students or dentists. i'll no longer waste my time with this thread. good luck to the op.

i said i am not going to respond to threads of trolls, so this is for you and anyone else who decided to troll on my thread. I hope you got better things to do than trolling, if your that bored you can pm me and troll and not waste space on the thread.

read my first post. so when i agree with you i'm mature, yet when i disagree i'm a troll.

i'll end this with your quote - or imo you are projecting yourself: "who are bitter to be in the position they are now or just hate life and themselves that they have no self respect for others."
