columbia vs cornell peds

Hallo all,

Just wondering if anyone can point out some noteworthy distinctions between columbia and cornell peds in regards to atmosphere, focus, whatever. I'm not too familiar with the new york programs and im trying to figure out if I should make room for both of these in an already crowded interview schedule.

I'm currently PGY-2 at a large academic program in NYC. As someone who was only looking in the NY area, I can tell you that my current PD, with whom I was close before I started, advised me not to apply to Cornell at all - they have some good fellowships, but their general peds program is not as highly regarded, because their main hospital is mainly private pts (i.e., little resident autonomy), and they farm out to a malignant city hospital.

Columbia fares better, and they've begun to focus more on general peds (I interviewed there), but lots of fellows around. The PD seemed very nice, and it was one of my top 3.

Anyone from either of those programs, feel free to correct me/comment.
