Okay, I interviewed in mid Jan and sent an LOI (interest) afterward...

Yet I've received no acknowledgement, NOR one of those letters/emails from Dean Frantz (you know, the ones that were worded one of three ways that were discussed in another thread).

Any thoughts??? 😱

THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!!! I wrote a letter in october, two thank yous (one to my interviewer and one to Dean Frantz both mailed c/o office of admissions on the SAME DAY), and a letter of intent in the beginning of this month. Well, I called a bunch of times last week, finally got through this week and they looked in my file and said there was only ONE thank you and my letter from october. I don't know how 2 of my 4 letters did not make it there. It doesn't make sense to me. So, I asked if it was possible that the Dean had them and the lady said absolutely not. What the? So now I'm freaking a little because apparently my interest in columbia (my top choice by far) was not received. So today I sent ANOTHER letter with overnight delivery and confirmation which hopefully will get there. But I had wondered why I never received any of those so-called thank yous that everyone is talking about. WHAT THE HECK? Could the lady have made a mistake? Does Dean Frantz ever hold onto the letters that were sent to him? I am really upset about this since decisions have probably already been made and now I'm too late.

my best friend sent in a letter too (to Dean Frantz I think) and didn't get a reply, so you're probably ok, maybe he does hold on to them. can't be a coincidence that they all get lost in the mail.

Holy crap. I'm wondering the same thing. Papers get moved. Things get lost... I FedEx'd mine, so someone DEFINITELY signed for it. Did Dean Frantz read it, though? I just don't know. 🙁 I know that I haven't gotten a cryptic letter in response to my Letter of Intent...

The more I think about it... the more I start thinking that I kinda don't want Saturday to come. I don't think I'm going to get in, so I'd like to hang on to the belief that as long as I don't find out... I still have a shot.

Thank you so much, toughcookies, stickyfingers and dienekes! I hope all of you receive good news within a week. This waiting game, when we've done all we could and everything is beyond our control, has got to be the hardest part of this whole process...

I agree that it's probably too late to send a LOI, so it might not be a bad idea to wait to hear from them first; that way, if you get in, no further action will be needed, but if you get WL'd, you can do something about it by sending in a LOI. to you.

I have exams, papers, presentations this week, and I still can't get my mind off of Columbia...I'm with you, I don't want this weekend to come, because the longer I can hold onto "hope" the better... when the reality of that waitlist or (worse) comes... its gonna be terrible

I've resisted posting in this thread because I didn't want to get my hopes up or jinx anything... but I honestly can't get myself to start on my huge pset because I feel so anxious! I guess it's time to give in and start freaking out with everyone else here haha. I'm in the "crap I didn't send any thank you notes or LOIs" camp, I'm hoping it won't matter... Fingers crossed for all of us this Saturday!!!

sorry to freak you out. i was pretty freaked myself when i called. I figured I would just double check that my letters were there. I never expected them to say that they weren't. It doesn't make sense. The only letters that weren't in my file were the two that I sent to Dean Frantz. He MUST have them, right? Anyways, all this stuff is making me crazy and I think it's time that I just let-go and realize that if it is meant to happen, it will. Sorry again mmmapricots! 😳

I mean essentially anyone who interviewed at columbia has to be an excellent student, so no one can be certain of a spot. And when I tell this to people they say, "but you are such a great candidate." AAAAAARGH! EVERYONE WHO INTERVIEWS AT COLUMBIA IS A GREAT CANDIDATE!!!! Anyone else share these sentiments.

LoL, well, NO. They haven't finished deciding if they're going to pick ME yet. I keep telling people March, and what's funny is that both non-med types (family/friends) and friends who've already been through this process seem to want to jump the gun on learning where I will go to med school.

I wish I had an answer for them, but patience is a virtue...

Word on the street is that the mailings go out the 29th (Friday). That means that people in New York could possibly hear on the 1st (Saturday).

The only evidence we have is word from a current Columbia med student who has worked as a student host and tour guide for this year's interview cycle. According to him/her (SDN name: Severus), the target date is Feb 29, but I don't think anyone has actually received direct confirmation from the admissions office staff.

I'm not even sure if it matters: 2/29 or 3/1. The postal service doesn't always deliver stuff on time, so even if you figure out when you're probably going to get your letter based on the date/time it's put in the post... you might have to wait a couple extra days. Then again... you might not.

If someone does call, though... please post. 😀

Thanks! The way to get better is to practice practice practice (kinda like surgery). 🙂 The glazed ones are annoying, but you don't need too much in the way of decorating skillz if you stick to sec (dry) or frais (fresh). Financiers, barquettes, and pate de fruits require very little decorating, so you may want to consider those. However, you will need a bunch of little molds (for the financiers and barquettes)... or one big one (pate de fruits).

I don't quite have the balls to do this (maybe because I'm a chick), but is anyone willing to take one for the team? oh gods. i read that and my nose started to burn, which happens when i'm freaked out. i don't understand why i'm reacting this way because i've already written them off - i had a crappy interview (easily the crappiest of all of mine), and you only get one. gosh dang it. jan/most of feb were so peaceful and i wasn't even thinking about this stuff. ahhhhhh!!!
