Columbia's 3 sci lor requirement

Columbia says it requires 3 LORs from science professors. Does anybody know how strict they are at this requirement?

So far, I have a committee packet consisting of a non-sci professor, 2 sci professors, and a dentist. Would this be sufficient? I could get another science professor if I have to, but the letter would most likely be pretty generic. And what about research PI's, would they considered a sci lor for this school?

I had 2 sci prof, 1 dental professional, and my PI. My PI's letter didn't count as a "sci prof letter" because I did not take a lecture-based class with her. However, I got into Columbia without concern about me letters. While 3 sci prof letters is their req, they are somewhat flexible. But if your stats (or application, in general) is on the borderline of their acceptance criteria, they might give you a harder time about fulfilling that LOR req.

Well, I applied with 2 sci, 1 PI, 1 dentist and didn't even get an interview. Didn't know about the 3 science professor rule though. Oh well.

3 science LORs or a committee letter.

I remember calling the schools to ask about this requirement and they told me that I should try to get 3 science letters because most competitive applicants would, but if I couldn't get 3 to not let that discourage me from applying.

They are very nice; I would call and ask. It may be the case that a health professions advising committee letter/packet obviates the need for three explicit sci LORs?

Yeah, I think that's how it's done. I think having a committee letter does obviate the need for individual LORs.

I would call up the school, or email. I would think that it would count, but it's best to be safe.

I think this question comes up every cycle and the answer is: they don't seem to be that strict on the LOR requirement. I applied last cycle with 2 science profs and a dentist, and I still got accepted in December.
