So during my last externship I stood through a 10 hr neck dissection and my feet, calves, thighs, back just about killed me. Anyone have any advice for shoes? I am heading on another externship and would like to be better prepared. I was thinking about getting some Crocs... Thanks

I also would like to hire a midget to massage my legs while I am in
there. Anyone know of any cheap midgets?

Dansko shoes

With them, life is better, air smells fresher, colors are brighter, and your back wont hurt

Seriously though, they're amazing. They've gotten me through intern year without a herniated disc....

I second the dansko clogs, they are well worth the money. I haven't worn anything else to work in the last eight years!

Do you guys prefer the open-back or closed-back for the dankso clogs? I figure the open-backs may have better ventilation, but you may also walk right out of them if you are walking fast through the hospital to get to places.. With the closed-backs, I'm thinking it'll be less likely to twist your ankle or have the shoes fall out of your feet? But my feet can get pretty sweaty and it'd be nice to be able to get some ventilation while standing in the OR for hours on end.. What do you think?

Closed-back is made so it doesn't even contact your heel, so it feels just like the open back shoe. The only reason it has a closed-back is bc some hospital's/clinic's require (like at my school) closed back footwear.

vans are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn

If you want to look like some gothic emo kid in the OR, be my guest.

Just get some Danskos and be done with it.

Oh, and Nike Free 7's in blue on discount rock. Just make sure they're on discount and in blue. Just sayin'..

Sure does. 😎

Plus, vans and danskos don't even belong in the same sentence

escalation...

Haha. Wow.

My feet must be weird because those clogs don't work for me. A little girlie looking also....look like heels. But hey, comfort trumps all... Glad some people swear by them and makes them happy.

I like my good old running shoes. Although I seriously question my ability to clean them...

I joined here before you buddy. I've had this avatar up before you even joined. Don't be so sensitive (I'm not).

You joined weeks ahead of me and I seriously doubt we just coincidentally picked the same avatar. I would advise learning some self reliance before going to dent school, you can't always take other people's ideas
