This exam makes no sense. How can you fail half of the scoring criteria and them not tell you why or how?

Any advice? Taking it a second time is putting a nice dent in my wallet (and my apparent ego 🙂 ).

Hi, I also just found out that I failed the exam. Well I have not seen my score report so I am not sure what I did wrong. Apparently, we get back extremely vague feedback. How can they get away with it??? I have no idea. Well my question is: I have 6 interviews allready scheduled for January. Should I just cancel them? I won't have a chance now that I failed this exam to match anywhere! I don't feel like wasting all the money and traveling all over the US for nothing! So should I just cancel all my interviews and then take the test the 2nd time, hope I pass, and then just try to scramble into somewhere? I have no idea what to do at this point. I feel so desperate, and burnt out of the whole damn thing. I wish I could just go back in time and choose not to go to medschool at all! 🙁
🙁 🙁

I know how you feel. I'm taking it again at the end of January. Keep the interviews. Go on them. You don't have to release the fail score to them. Do you?

Once you release your COMLEX scores to ERAS it will automatically update every time a new score is received... so you can't selectively release some scores and not others (unless you choose to only release USMLE vs COMLEX scores).

This is true for USMLE scores, but I don't think it's true for COMLEX scores. If you look on the MyEras page, there's a "retransmit comlex transcript" button. Also, if you read the "view comlex selection" section it specifically states:

Your transcript will include the scores available ON THE DATE YOUR REQUEST IS PROCESSED BY NBOME

I'm pretty sure that we have to transmit a new transcript request each time NBOME scores become available...

Not sure myself, the only reason I say that is my COMLEX transcript upload date has refreshed a few times since I sent my application (once).

I failed it as well. It is ridiculous. Failed me for the humanistic portion for which I draped ppl, acted as fakely nice as I could. Have no idea how to change my prep for next time. Also, about the having to send the PE score, my document tracking on ERAS shows a more recent upload date 3 months past my submitting my app that possibly would have included my failure. However, the upload date is end of November, and about a week ago I got an email from a program I interviewed at asking me to resubmit my COMLEX transcript to see my PE score.

New results out today. Through Nov. 30. Passed!!!

I just wanted to say that although there's a lot of scary stuff on SDN about this exam, it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I'm sure there are unfair failures, but most people aren't among them, even if they screw up.

I know for a fact that I screwed up a zillion things during my day, including forgetting to hand wash for the very last patient, and I know she noticed too (by the look she gave me...too late, and I was just too excited to be done). One OMM patient I didn't know what to do, so did some BS indirect nothing...still passed.

You CAN screw up, a lot, and still pass. I'm doing psych, and haven't seen an FM-style patient in like, 6 months at least, practiced for one day, felt very uncomfortable, but still managed to pass somehow. You can too.

Keep your chin up. Stay optimistic until scores come out. Most people pass, even with screwups. You probably will too. You WILL feel horrible after the test. Realize everyone feels this way and just try and forget about it. Repeat the mantra: "almost everyone passes, almost everyone passes." Breathe.

OMG such a relief!!!

My heart goes out to those who somehow did not pass. I'm sure it happens, and I'm sure there was some stupid reason, or something, but I just wanted to put out some good SDN vibes for once, since they are few and far between.

I feel very, very sorry for anyone that has to go to Conshocken PA again. Ugh.

I'd also add that the NBOME staff did a great job during the exam. Everyone was pleasant, the building was nice, food was adequate, patients were very, very good at their jobs, and they made an unpleasant experience as good as it could be, I think. I think there could be a better use of money than PDA's for surveys, but that's just me.

Is it true that they deliberately fail 7-10% of people who took it just to generate more revenue?
