THERE'S NO SANTA CLAUS?!?!?! 😱

Seriously, that is a pretty f'd up situation. How devastating. I can't begin to imagine that all that hard work is just going down the drain.

Was he with everyone else during the test? Were there cameras on you guys or something?

Messed up, dude.

Finding out that people cheat on tests was as bad as finding out that a jolly nice guy doesn't distribute presents to good girls and boys? Hmmm ...

WOW!!! 😱 I am almost speechless. It's a real sad story...thanks for sharing PAC.

Its all relative to age Kinetic!! I was just so bummed out when I heard what I thought was Santa going down the hall when I was 8. It was my Dad cursing because the Nerf basketball goal wouldn't fit and he was scraping the paint off the walls!!! Not the best way to find out....and not the best way to find out a respected colleague is not who you thought they were.

Hey, it can always be worse. Like, what if you caught "Santa" mixin' it up with "Mrs. Claus" under the tree on Christmas morn'?

You'll live.

(I get by through a complex process of not respecting any colleagues.)

That really sucks. He must have been feeling pretty desperate to even risk cheating in the first place. I wonder why they haven't computerized the COMLEX yet, to try and lower the temptation for people to cheat. I think it would be nearly impossible to cheat on the USMLE with the official orange pieces of paper, not being able to leave the room mid-block, and all of the cameras and proctors watching you like a hawk!
Anyway, I hope things work out for him in the end.

I think there was an article a few years back in the NY Times that stated that highly performing students (straight A's) are MORE likely to cheat than the average student, this information was gathered from high school seniors who had high SAT scores. If my memory serves me correct the article stated that they are under so much pressure to perform that they fall prey to this temptation (I guess their superego can't suppress their ID). P.S the article might be in their Sunday mag.

When I took Step 1 way back in teh day, I had a fellow classmate who admitted to me that he cheated on the COMLEX. Several times. Quite frustrating. Ingeniuos, but frustrating.

Q, DO

it just goes to show that what happens in the dark comes to the light eventually...

although it's very disheartening, i guess it's better for you guys to know now that he's been dishonest than to find out later, after he starts trying to treat patients. (kinda like morris, the red headed resident on ER that doesn't know jack). at least he had the balls to apologize to you guys.

i just don't understand how you can cheat on the comlex...the booklets we got had all different questions in them! i discussed the test with several classmates at lunch, and there were at least 5-6 different versions, if not more.

maybe his academic dishonesty consisted in lying about whatever "condition" it was that he had to take the test separately? i know a couple of people back in the day who said they have ADD just to get some extra time on the SAT, maybe it was the same case???

that's pretty disturbing.

I will tell you that people on the West coast had our books 3 and 4 as their books 1 and 2. That would certainly open up the cheating possibilities, no?

BTW, COMLEX Is computerized next year. That should be interesting.

sorry to hijak..
but i don't know that the COMLEXwill be computerized next year, and if it is it still might be 2 days since we were already given 2 days next year when we will have the COMLEX. they also told us that by the time we graduate (2007) the scoring on the 2 tests will be comparible.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, as I know this guy was a friend of yours, but I'm glad someone or something caught him. It's silly to cheat at this level. 🙄

I don't know how you could really verify this theory to be honest with you.

I do...when was your 'picture book' administered? From that exam, all things follow. I know there are people who had that part oin day 1, while ours was the last book.

Also...our books 1 and 2 were decidely different, with maybe 7 variations, but I would wager that 90% of books 3 and 4 was shared by our entire class.

You only had one book with pictures? We had 2 (blocks 1 and 4) at CCOM. I didn't realize the testing varied so much from school to school.

We had 2 books with pics but one was glossy and the other not. Hey Idio, check out my thread on "Screen Break" and give me an opinion. 😉

We had 2 people expelled from our class for cheating on, of all things, an OMM written exam! did I miss 'em at graduation? Nope. In fact, I'm glad they were expelled.

i had 1 book with pictures too--and pretty glad it was only one, because those pictures were pretty horrible...

actually, you might be right about the variation--for book 1, i heard several different versions, but the last book it seemed almost everyone had the same. i guess they couldn't come up with more brilliant pictures than those 🙄

but the first book, the variations were huge--i thought had a pretty decent one, after a friend of told me he had like 20 questions on worms in his!!!

i just think that it would be a tad hard to cheat off of someone in class. and a little too bold to use other methods.

man i cant believe someone would cheat at this level..as far as the books are concerned..at Nova we only had 1 picture book and it was book 4 on the 2nd day.
