At what point will the Osteopathic students stop having to take both the USMLE and the COMLEX in order to be competitive for all specialties? I am interested in anesthesiology and I’ve heard it’s important to take both. Any advice would be appreciated

Never man. If anything the comlex will go away and everyone will be required to take the usmle. But the comlex is too much of a cash cow for the fat cats so don’t hold your breathe

Take the usmle. I'm a current anesthesia applicant. Its helped tremendously with getting interviews.

If you want anesthesia you need USMLE unless you want to goto the like 9 former AOA gas programs. Comlex is really only good for not competitive residencies like community IM, and FM. Even traditionally Comlex friendly fields like Psych are preferring USMLE as the competition increase.

You need a solid COMLEX to apply to the super competitive fields since your target will be former AOA.

When DO schools ALL offer clinical education that PDs feel is the same as that in MD schools.

Until then, all DO students will be tarred by the effects of the weakest schools.

OR, when you of this generation of students can get into the upper echelon of the AOA, COCA and NBOME and throttle the current generation of incompetents running the show.
