In the Kaufmann videos he literally takes 18 minutes to do the exam....how the hell are we supposed to do the exam in 14 minutes?

1) Knee ROM
2) lower extremity strength, l4, l5 ,s1
3) lower extremity sensation
4) lower extremity pulses
5) have them walk and assess gait
6) special testts....mcmurray, posterior and anterior draw, apley compression and distraction, patella grind
7) palpation of knee and surrounding muscles.

This is insane, on top of that we will probably have to do OMM...

how have people been doing knee exams....honestly all the joint exams seem to take too long, am i trying to do too much?

You can do a thorough knee exam in 30 seconds or less. Get the patient in the correct position then: Assess for effusions in the knee (~5 seconds), do your McMurray or Ant. Draw (~10 seconds), check pulses simultaneously behind the knee when doing draws, check ROM or have the patient take a few steps (~15 seconds). Even if you throw in some other things like distal or proximal pulses, palpation of muscles, you're adding maybe another 20 seconds? The order of you what you do doesn't matter so long as you are verbalizing what you're doing, what you're looking for, and the results (normal or abnormal). The PE is only hard if you overthink everything. Don't be afraid to do a simple OMT maneuver if the patient prompts you to do so.. for what techniques to do and how to do them i refer you to OMG OMT.
