Hello internet!

Because my school doesn't give us any information about this test, I was wondering for those who have already taken the test....how did it go?

Most importantly, how should we best prep for this test? Will watching the PE videos and reading the JB review book be enough to successfully pass? Unfortunately the way scheduling worked out my test is in approximately 20 days (ughh). Cannot study full time as I am currently on rotations (3rd year student).

Have I made a terrible mistake (ie should I reschedule)? I originally wanted something more early-mid-spring but the dates disappeared like magic, and I wanted to get this exam done before hunkering down to study for Level 2 and Step 2 in the late spring.

Your thoughts are appreciated, thank you!

You’ll feel like you failed but probably you won’t.

First Aid for Step 2 CS + the Kauffman PE videos + the NBOME videos + a bit of OMM was enough for me. Have an OMM technique or two in mind for any body part (best bets are things that are quick and easy, like muscle energy and myofascial).

She used even more than me. I used the NBOME videos, read the info in the Kaufman book and watched all the Kaufman videos. I also practiced some cases from the book (<20) with my mom to get timing down and practice the mnemonic. I passed.

any big differences between kaufman and First Aid for Step 2 CS?

Kaufman method ftw. Watched all of his videos, reviewed omm techniques enough to know 1-2 treatments per body region, and practiced formulating an A/P from the usmle cs book, which I don't think was a necessity but more to sure up my own weaknesses. Felt completely terrible after the exam. Passed.

this is the book you're all talking about, right?

Literally spent 2 days watching the trulearn videos and went in cold. Felt like I failed; I passed. Would do it that way again.

Thank you all! Really appreciate in the input! I guess I'll keep my date with the NBOME lol. Fingers crossed. 🙂

Make sure you finish your note. Hit all points needed and follow the advice above. I will add that they may turn down the temp heavy which makes it a bit harder to type fast. Something to keep in mind.

I literally just showed up for the exam. I did no practice and read no books. My strong suspicion is people that fail either don't do a full physical exam or are so nervous they trip over themselves

Don’t do this if you’re a nervous person lol.
I’m glad it works for people who are calm cool and collected . But I’m a big ol’ ball of nerves and without practicing a couple times I totally would have tripped over myself.

As tempting is this is, I wasn't willing to risk my future on this strategy. And the 1 person in my class that I know who failed did that. Glad it worked out for you, but for future test takers it's not that hard to watch the Kaufman videos and run through his strategy a few times.

Definitely think that if you have the time it's better to prepare, and if you're a nervous wreck, you better prepare! I think my situation is unique to having gone to Western. We have a 100% pass rate, and it is because they make our OSCEs harder than life. For example, one girl failed every 3rd year OSCE the first time (each repeat was $150) and passed PE without a problem

Pay to retake OSCEs? That's ridiculous. Although sadly much cheaper than a PE retake.
