I've heard it represents how difficult your exam was but I have no idea how much validity that has - our percentiles will get mailed to us

You need to know the standard deviation to calculate percentiles.

mean is 500
s.d. is 79
1 s.d. = 67th percentile, etc.

The two-digit score is similar to the three digit, but a different mean and different standard deviation. On my mailing from the NBOME, they only listed the three-digit mean and s.d.

The two-digit IS NOT a percentile.

directly from the score report page:

Important Note: The 2-digit scores reported on this page are equivalent to the 3-digit scores, and are NOT the same as the 2-digit Percentile Rank that appeared on your score report. Please click here for more information about how to properly interpret these scores.

So...it sounds like we get an actual percentile on the paper copy of the score report that gets mailed to us...but who knows..

False, or I can't read.

You need to brush up on your biostats, buddy.

+1 SD = 84.1 percentile (+34.1 from average)

The 68% you may be referring to is the total number of people scoring within 1 standard deviation of the mean.

Yeah, thanks for catching the mistake; sorry if I confused anyone!

I think I received my mailing around 5 weeks from when I took the test.
