Long time stalker, first time poster,

I did not do as well as I was hoping I would on the comlex. How did everyone else do? Did anyone do better than they thought they would? I am taking the exam again, and I was wondering if some people can give their *actual* scores and some of their tips for succeeding on this second go-around. I also agree with the poster who questioned all of y'all's standard deviations and percentiles and such.

Sure thing. 643/92. Given that fact that the NBOME as so graciously decided not to tell us how we stack up against each other, I find that assuming a normal distribution and using SD is good enough for me and it is the only way to do it now.

Nice to see the DesMoinkers doing well!

Ended up with 678/94. I think that the single best resource for the test form that I had was Goljan's audio and his rapid review text. In terms of preparation, nothing beats doing well in the first two years of medical school. That being said, I thought Goljan's material was--of the material that I used--the most relevant/helpful and would recommend it to anybody that is getting ready for Comlex I.

To the OP, I did way better on COMLEX than I thought I would, especially after leaving the test and realizing how many stupid mistakes I made. I actually ended up with a 700/96 much to my amazement. Of course hard work during the first two years are essential but you obviously can’t go back and do them over. So in terms of study prep, I would absolutely agree with the above poster that Goljan audio and rapid review are essential to doing well on the test. Out of anything else, I would say this book got me through that exam.

I bought the Kaplan Qbank but only did about half of it, I thought it prepared me more for the USMLE though. I also purchased the Kaplan review books which were a good, concise review. I mostly used First Aid, micro made ridiculously simple, Goljan’s high yield biochem/genetics review, pharm and micro recall series, physiology secrets, the newest “grid” series anatomy book, and the green OMT review book that everyone talks about.

What was your first board review strategy? Did you do many sample questions or just read straight through? How long did you have to prepare and will you have more time this go round? Maybe you had the right resources but just didn’t utilize them fully. Hopefully we can figure out a good plan for you and get that nasty score you deserve! 👍

what did all of you high scorers do to study?

I changed so many answers and I wish I hadn't. What do you think of when you get to a question and you narrow it down to two answers? Do you ever change answers?

What's the secret to your success?! 👍

Practice questions until your head bleeds, know FA, know Goljan Path. If you're 50-50 between 2 answers, go with your gut.

Agree, I did over 3000 practice questions, started studying in Jan for the June test. I did 30 q's a day until April then uped it to 50-100 until the test. Kaplan was a great 6 month review. Did goljan twice during first 6 months and then all 40 hrs, at 2 x speed 2 weeks before that test. Study for your classes using first aid for USMLE and Step-up. Treat each class like it is the boards. And never change you answers unless you have a darn good reason. Narrow to two go with gut and stick with it, never, never, never change you answers!

Were the NBME exams good? So goljan and first aid are your recommendations? :luck:

Again goljan in money, the NBME exams are great but harder than what you will see on comlex, they will have a lot of biostats, and biochem which the comlex didn't really have, I had maybe 6 q's for biochem and biostats. But if you know the stuff for USMLE you'll rock comlex

How many questions do y'all think makes the difference between a 400 and a 800? I'm leaning towards maybe 30 questions...

Have any of you gotten your score sheets back? Can you post a copy of them?

Were the Chapman's points very straight forward, or did they get crazy with those? Any posterior? Thanks.

What question banks did y'all use? I don't think the question banks that I have are representative of the COMLEX questions. So, where are you guys getting these golden question banks from?

Thanks 😛

Kaplan Comlex, and USMLE easy. Neither is the best but they give you around 3000 questions you can do and study

If you do Kaplan, do the USMLE version, not the COMLEX.

Dont waste your time with USMLEasy...i used it when it was free and likely wouldnt use it otherwise.

I used both and thought they were ok, I scored 643/92 so they worked for me
