I have some questions specific to DO applicants applying to Psych residencies.

Assuming both Comlex 1 and Step 1 are P/NP at the end of my 2nd year, I was thinking about taking Comlex 1 only and then taking both Comlex 2 and Step 2 (since they are both graded).

How much less competitive to a residency would I be going this route compared to someone who took both Comlex 1 and Step 1 (both P/NP) in addition to both Step 2 /Comlex 2? It seems like there is limited additional information a PD could gain from me passing Step 1 in addition to passing Comlex 1, if there are no scores. Any PDs who can comment on this?

No one knows how this whole pass-only board scenario is going to go, some people think it will benefit top MD schools versus applicants from lower tier schools.

but if you fail step 1 and do amazing on step 2, you cannot only report step 2, you would have to also report step 1 on ERAS. Not sure if you can register for step 2 if you fail step 1, someone please help on that. But you can take step 2 without taking step 1, unless they change it. Maybe @Goro can help.

As for being competitive, everything always changes, just like any job interview, you have to sell yourself, which means having a great application and also interviewing well, applying broadly, etc.
