I'm sorry but i'm new to these board exams. So there's 3 levels / steps to the COMLEX right?? Do you take all 3 at the same time? or are they separeted out?? How many board exams are there?? And when do you have to take them?

Yes there are 3 steps to COMLEX. The first step is taken between your second and third years of medical school and is designed to test your knowledge of the basic sciences covered in the first two years of school.

The second step has 2 parts, a written test and a physical examination of a mock patient. These are taken between the third and fourth years of school.

The third step is take during residency and is specific to the residency you choose. Internal medicine has a different test than an OB/GYN residency for example.

This is just a basic outline and may vary by school, keep asking if you have any more questions.

Absolutely untrue. Everyone takes the same step 3 regardless of residency.

To the OP, the COMLEX testing pattern is exactly the same as the USMLE. We use the same review books to study, too, since the subject matter is the same for each of the steps. We just add a book on OMM to the mix.

I apoplgize for the incorrect information I posted. I just re-read the NBOME site and realize that I misunderstood what was said aobout the level 3 exam. What Dr. Mom said it correct.
