Can anyone list some prep books they used to study for the boards step 1....

Also, I have heard that both COMLEX and USMLE have become much more case based. If you have info regarding this could you please reply.

I think you should decide which books are best for you. Some people prefer reading case studies on diseases, others prefer question based books, other outlines...

I used the 1999 Kaplan USMLE I board review books (bought them used). I also did some of the BRS books, OMT Review by Savarese, and a little bit of First Aid for Step I.

I did... VERY well.

When did you start studying for the boards. I am a second year at AZCOM and I am about middle of the class and I am trying to do well this year as well as prep for the boards.

We get out the end of April at nSUCOM, i took a week and a half to, shall we say, experimented in onanism... and then began to study.
